Should I buy a Bernard shaw ball point or fountain pen, this will be for every day use. I do not really need another fountain as I already have a Bohemia fp. Is the BS Ball point some thing I could use every day.

This is really a personal preference thing. Do you need to write on weird paper (wax coatings etc) or through multiple copies, if so the BP might be a better choice. If not, the FP might be nicer. The BP also has the advantage in speed in case you take frequent notes (no uncapping, just grab and write). I normally carry a BP daily and occasionally a FP, now going out to meetings/on the town/etc I take a FP.

As Allan pointed out the BP is a more practical daily carry pen. For quick notes and signing documents the BP is more convenient and practical. Both are top heavy, not that it is a bad thing. I don't find it too cumbersome to use, unlike the BP you can not post the FP if it is a problem. The FP, although to me not as practical a daily carry, is an absolutely stunning pen.

Well my question is why use a BP or RB at all ?
I dont get this, simply dont get this.
If you want to use a BP or RB why spend so much money on it.
Well thats me though. For me there are 2 kind of pens
1.Fountain pen
2.Non fountain pen

If I am forced to use a non FP then I will not pay a cent for it and try to get back to my beloved FP ASAP !!!

So if you ask me get the Shaw FP.
I have it and its an AMAZING pen-AMAZING !!!

Simple answer: My job requires that I fill out invoices on company preprinted multicopy carbonless paper. This paper a) requires pressure which would force me to use a nib as hard as a nail, cool.gif has a coating on the paper that clogs the nib, and c) the same coating causes the ink to dry slower than I would like.

Since using these forms is a requirement of my job, and since that job is how I pay for my fountain pens, I use a BP to insure that I can continue to buy and use FPs elsewhere.

Next you ask why pay so much money for a BP or RB? The same reason you pay so much for a FP! Fit, finish, balance, smoothness of the action, looks, fit to my hand, etc. My MB BP is my daily carry to work, sometimes with a FP riding shotgun. Outside of work FPs seem to rule the pocket with the occasional RB or BP tagging along for various reasons.

Thank you all for your advice. I got the Bernard shaw FP, it is gorgeous. I am in the army so very often have to fill out paper work and take quick notes of orders. I will still buy a BP as I already have a roller ball already. I will post photos later on tomorrow. It is my first writers edition.
