Full Version: Another stylophile, or is it styloholic?

I write about thirty pages a day as a therapist, and I have been collecting pens about 20 years. The internet has accelerated things, especially as there are no pen shops within 120 miles of me. On the other hand, the path of addiction is known to be an accelerating curve, so maybe this is just the natural progression of the vice. Probably both factors are at work.

My pen selection up to now was dictated to accommodate the refills that I like the best. Cross gel, Parker gel, and the Itoya replacement, the Parker RB, and all the pens that can take the Pilot Q7 or G2's. I had bad experiences with (cheap poorly made) fountain pens in elementary school, so I just didn't go there.

For my 6oth Birthday, my wife got me a MB 146. I was surprised to find out I loved it! I know, MB has many detractors. As a landmark birthday present, the 146 is perfect for me. I love the Blue-black ink, which is just as iconic of FP as the pen is to me. (Yes, I know it is dangerous, but not as bad as asbestos or radon!)

So now I am craving the FP's that correspond to all the members of my collection. Luckily, Cross selec-tips can be upgraded to a FP with the nib replacement. I wonder if Parker Duofold RB's can similarly upgraded?

This board is a fun place. I didn't see a 12-Step topic. Is it possible to control this craving?

Hi there and welcome.
Glad you're very happy with your 146. I'm not with mine but that is a different story.
What I do like that you like too (whew) is blue-black ink. That in itself is a whole topic. There are so many differences that we should maybe make a new sub-forum just called black & blue !

Why would you want to stop the craving? A sensitive person, such as yourself, should have a writing instrument which responds to that sensitivity; something which no gel pen, roller ball, or ball point can possibly do. Only fountain pens should be considered true pens, other things are simply sticks which leave marks on paper. wink.gif In any case, welcome to the asylum. You'll find all the information you need here to make sure that the craving is properly satisfied.

Take care,

Welcome! Money has a funny way of controlling craving...

I agree with Ron. Why would you want to stop the craving for fountain pens. I am a styloholic and an inkoholic. I view this as completely different from calling a drunkard an alcoholic. It's more like calling a lung an oxyholic.

And welcome from Western Canada.
