Full Version: Parker Duofold Marble Maroon manufacturing error?

Hello,

I have two (international and centennial) marble maroon Duofold fountain pens.

There seems to be a manufacturing error on both of them which is very curious to me.

On the caps of both fountain pens the following is engraved:

PARKER
MADE IN UK
IN

Does anyone know if this is a manufacturing error, an extra "IN" engraved on the caps??

Hello Andy,

Thanks for the fast reply. The website you sent me talks about the nibs, I did not find anything about the date code there. This is engraved on the fountain pen's cap.
By the way, the second "IN" appears right below the first one, and I looked at it under the microscope, it is not 1N or something else, it is written "IN".

Thanks,

Hello Again,

I did searched further on Richrd binder's site as suggested by Andy. Found the following:

http://www.richardspens.com/ref_info/bday_pen.htm

Yes indeed, it seems to be the date code, "IN" suggesting the date of manufacturing to be the third quarter of 1989 (if I understood it correctly). It looked to me like a manufacturing error rolleyes.gif

Thanks again Andy.

Hi,

I also have a modern (1988 according to Parker) green marble International size Duofold.

I just looked at the cap with a magnifying glass. The only writing is the word "Duofold" in fancy script on the cap's bronze jewel.

The pen body has a black tapered end (to prevent scratches when posting the cap, I think). The black end has very fine engraving "Parker" and "Made in UK".

I am puzzled why your pen should be different from mine.

By the way, after I tuned the nib to my pleasure, this is one of my favorite pens.

Anyone have an explanation? I'm pretty sure your is a modern pen like mine, and not the original Duofold.

You'll find the date code between those two engravings if you look at the end in a strong light. It's not on the cap.

Hi

My Duofold was bought this year in London in the Harrod's sale. It is marked Y.III.

I would assume that that means 1st quarter 2006.

I am also very happy with the pen and with the price (after VAT refund approx. 160 sterling)
