I just noticed a potential problem with my Sheaffer Legacy 2 with touchdown filler, which I bought as NOS a few months ago. When I took the barrel off I noticed some ink on the filler just above the collar where it plugs into the section ... and it was the previous ink I had used! There was very little. But when I'd run a tissue at the joint between the collar & filler, the tissue would soak up more ink. After awhile it was the current ink being picked up. Obviously, this leak has been going on for awhile.

I haven't pulled the filler to get a better look, since it's full of ink. I'll probably do that when I use up this fill.

Is this likely to be a problem worth doing anything about?

What's likely to be the cause ... the filler is bad, or the nipple is bad? I made sure the filler was plugged in all the way, and I tried rotating it a little (i.e. around the nipple) to alter the connection. This made no difference.

I'd rather not have to send the pen off to Sheaffer, but I will if necessary, of course.
