For some reason, I am not acquiring one. On one hand, I know that it is an expensive pen that I can't really afford, on the other, it is killing me not to get one, given the fact that they are special edition and they look damn good...

Can any owners give testimonial about their 620's?

I have a Place de La Concorde which is so beautyful that I'm not able to ink it.
At least I can conform that they look damn good.

I have a Piccadilly Circus and, from a few posts I have read, is not one of the more appreciated LE's. For me, however, it truly is a beautiful pen; the reds, grays, blues combine really well with the silver trim. I prefer it over the Place de La Concorde and New York which, too, are really nice pens in their own right.

I've review the Stockholm and Shanghai.

I have and love the Athens pen. The cities pens appealed to me as a group, though I like some more than others. I love the M6xx size, piston-filling mechanism, and light weight. The translucent and pearly blues of the Athens really spoke to me.

I bought the Athens because at the time, I thought it was my destiny. smile.gif It was released several years before I ever knew about it, and from what I understood, the odds of my ever finding one were slim because it was highly-sought. I'm glad I mentioned that I liked it to my friend/colleague, because he randomly found one on his way home from work one day, and he telephoned me on the spot. I couldn't believe the shop still had any left. It was brand-new and stunning, and they offered me a discount, so I bought it. I've never regretted it.

That said, I don't feel that I need any others in this range. I'm content with my one Athens.

I have the Piazza Navona and the Grand Place. Beautiful pens I use regularly. Both are usually in my rotation.

I wish I could have the remaining two Berlin and Madrid. Alas, it is very difficult to find them anymore. San Fran and Athens would be the most sought after pens due to its stunning beauty and right combination colours. The transluscent swirl brownish, greyish and black colour of San Fran reminds me of the vintage 100N tortoise pen. As for Athens, the beautiful transparent purple/blue and pinch of yellow and white colour reflect the sun and sea of Athens (per foretold by Pelikan).

I first ruled out Chicago and rebuffed it as another copied pen like its predecessor ie. Berlin, Stockholm and Madrid but when I saw the actual pen, the black plus gray transluscent appeal to the silver clip and trim. No wonder it is also another most sought after pen after the two mentioned pen. I was lucky to purchase it this year in one of the shopping mall here at a discounted price despite this pen was released long time ago. I guess that would be the last Chicago pen sold in store.

I understand that Piccadilly may not appeal to most people but not to me as I personally like the strong colour of the red, blue and grey. Only comment is that it is no more transparent like the earlier M620 model. The other strong colour pen is Shanghai but a transparent pen which I adore it very much. Grand Place is a breathtaking elegant pen and I bought it without hesitation. It is a grand finale pen and a closure for the M620 series.

The New York reminds me of a fresian cow colour and I almost laugh when I saw the pen for the first time. As for the Concorde, it is one of the pen (besides Grand Place and New York) where the colour of the turning knob and grip section are the same like its barrel colour and I consider it as rare. You would notice that the turning knob and grip sections in other city models are all in black.

The Navona colour reminds me of the colour of the collesuem in Italy and that indeed reflect the colour of the place that Pelikan dedicated. lticaptd.gif

+1 for the Picadilly Circus. A truly underrated pen.

Ditto what KCat said except that I have the Grand Place, Piccadilly Circus, and Place de la Concorde. The M600-size is perfect for my hand even if I post the cap, and they're great writers all around. The versatility of the nibs doesn't hurt either (they come with 18-carat-gold nibs but can take other M600 nibs, M400 nibs, and M200 nibs in steel or gold so there are a lot of opportunities to mix and match). I've purchased mine through Richard Binder and Pam Braun and have nothing but good things to say about the transacations.

Well, it's definitely on my drool list, but the longer I wait the harder they will become to find, unfortunately sad.gif.

I have the Athens, too, and it is a beauty. The only other one that I really want to acquire is the "San Francisco", because I lived there for the last 10 years before moving to Seattle, and it would have sentimental value.

I have the Athens and it's one of my most loved pens. The one that I have is actually my second, my first having been unceremoniously stolen from my desk at work. I love the blues in the pen.

Curiously, I recently saw another Athens pen and the colors seem to have evolved to a purple/yellow combination instead of a blue/yellow scheme. Was there a change in production color at some point?
MikeW
I have the whole darn set of them. In fact, I posted a picture of them a while back under a "flock of pelicans". At the time I thought Niagara Falls belonged but it does not.

I can't access or find that picture any longer.

Bottom line - I just love them!

Hard to pick a favourite but I would say San Fran then Chicago, then a big toss up. The San Fran was the last one and hardest to find.

I own a Place de la Concorde and really like it. Most of my other pens are dark coloured and this one brings some contrast to the collection.

I have the Piccadilly Circus, which was the first Pelikan I bought (yes, yes, I now know I was missing something!). It was a smooth writer right out of the box, holds a ton of ink, and lays down a beautiful line. I have only used Pelikan blue in it. It is one of my showiest pens, and I have a lot of colorful pens in my collection. Like others comments before me, I know some folks are bothered by the colors, but I really enjoy the sparkle of that pen in the light. Funny enough, it just came back into rotation yesterday (I usually have 4-6 pens inked at a time).

The Pelikan M620 pens are so beautiful to me. The designs, colors, aesthetics and quality of the Pelikans are outstanding.

The M620 special edition pens include the Cities line and the Special Places line. Unfortunately I haven't been able so far to buy any of the Cities. But I'm the proud and happy owner of a Piazza Navonna, Place de la Concorde, Picadilly Circus and Grand Place. I also own all three models of the M640 Natural Phenomena series: Niagara Falls, Sahara and Polar Lights. Currently I have inked and use daily:
  • M620 Grand Place with a customized fine cursive italic wet nib by Mr. Mottishaw inked with FPN Galileo Manuscript Brown.
  • M640 Sahara with a medium cursive italic wet nib by Mr. Binder inked with Noodler's black.
  • M640 Polar Lights with a medium italic stub by Mr. Binder inked with Noodler's Baystate Blue. The Polar Lights is a very pretty pen and the custom nib is wet too, 8/10 in Binder's scale.
In addition, I'm using a blue Pelikan M605 with a Binder Italifine nib inked with Noodler's Eel blue and a japanese Platinum #3776 with a music nib inked with Baystate Blue. The Platinum music nib is bold and very wet. Great for signatures too. I guess I like wet nibs. puddle.gif All these Pelikan pens are beautiful and the customized nibs are giving me really a very high degree of satisfaction and writing pleasure every day. biggrin.gif I write a lot in my work and also put some ink on paper out of the office. Both Mottishaw and Binder are true nibmasters.

I have to admitt that I'm a Pelikan fan, but also enjoy japanese pens. I have a few of Sailor 1911's with outstanding and esoteric nibs by master nib designer Nobuyoshi Nagahara. For example, a 21k gold Cross Concord Emperor nib. How about that for esoteric? The Nagahara's nibs are currently out of rotation, maybe not for long for the cross concord.

I have to say the following:

(1) I'm not going to tell you which M620 I like best (because it's almost all of them).
(2) If you have the chance, look at as many af them as you can, but in flesh and blood. Not on the screen, because that isn't vivid enough! (Same as for many old or even new celluloids, e.g. Optimas).

The 620s function more or less the same as the regular 600s, but they're so much more colorful. I really like this series. It'd be a treat if anyone can post a photo of the entire series together - major eye candy! yikes.gif

Does anyone know whether there are plans for further additions to the M620 family? The M640 is just too heavy for my tastes.

Athens owner here too, and yes it was hard to get.

I have a Stockholm and a Berlin, acquired in that order when the Stockholm first came out. I love the Stockholm and thought I might collect the whole series, so I went backwards while I could and bought a Berlin because it was the first. Pelikan made them much faster than I could afford, so that's as far as the quest ever got.

My interests have really shifted to vintage in the last few years, and sometimes I think of selling the Berlin to fund that direction-- but I don't think I'll ever sell the Stockholm because 1) it was a birthday gift, and 2) the blue of the Stockholm is more pleasing to me than the green of the Berlin.

Both, of course, work as all Pelikan do-- flawlessly.
Titivillus
I've had two of them and sold them uninked. They are nice looking but are a M600 size so if you don't like small pens they aren't the pens for you.

And I do wish that that Pelikan would make a M800 in some of the earlier two colors.

Finally managed to get the Madrid (mint) last 2 days ago when I was in Hongkong. The seller has the Berlin but a rollerball pen. Oh well, the last pen - Berlin will be an enduring task to locate one especially it is the first pen of the cities series.. blink.gif

I have the Athens, and it could be my favorite pen. The only disadvantage is that I can't bare to use it in public, because it attracts too much attention.

You should decide which of them you like and "stalk" them. One day, one of them will come up on market and you can grab it then. I was looking for a regular M600 as a "backup" for my M605 because it fits my hand so well when Fahrneys went temporarily nuts and put the Grand Place up for $180, which was less than the best price for a new M600. I wasn't even looking for a City. Anyway I grabbed it. Glad I did.

There are a some other cities I like, and in general I like them better than the new 640s. Anyway, my counsel is focused patience.

Oh, they're really good on the nib end too:

Those shots of your 12 prens makes me sick, Ohhh, I'm already sick. Why do I love Pelikans so much? It's not healthy for my wallet or my marriage.

Will Pelikan issue new specimens of the M620? I don't know. Four of the Pelikan M620's I own and enjoy. It's difficult and expensive to complete the whole limited edition series. Looking at Daeng's previous post with a picture of the whole series, I'll admitt that I'm suffering a bout of envy. I wish I could take a photo of all those beauties together and that they were all mine. drool.gif Congratulations Daeng!!

I guess Pelikan instead is developing the M640 Wonders of the World series. The series is now in its third edition; the Niagara Falls, Sahara and Polar Lights. I understand a fourth one named The Everest will be issued soon. How soon I don't know but I better start saving some $$$.

Indeed the M640 is heavier than the M620. It does have a different lacquered metal body design, fatter and a bit longer than the M620. It holds plenty of ink. I understand, but can't affirm with absolute certainty, that the M640 features a brass piston filler. However, I find it exceptionally well balanced capped or uncapped and it fits nicely in the hand allowing a comfortable writing experience. The M640 has its own characteristics and distinct feeling, but I would say it feels closer to the M800 than the M600 or 620.

Anyway, I enjoy writing with either.

daenghafez
Thanks all for your kind words. embarrassed_smile.gif

Like Levatio said, it is difficult and expensive to complete the whole series. A few of the series pens have its current premium price in view of its beauty and they are no more in production.

I started with Stockholm and have the opportunity of buying the Berlin at that time. As my favourite colour is blue, I chose Stockholm and promised to get back buying Berlin later. That was year 2001. The price of both pens were half less of the existing M640 series. But the purchase didnt come through and I told myself I could get it some other time may be from the mall or pen shop or the internet etc.

Time passes by, I saw the San Fran, Shanghai and so on in the local market but I just thought these can be obtained easily later. After all its Pelikan.

How wrong I was as when I started my interest to get the whole collection, most of them are sold out already.

I managed to pick up some pelikans here in Kuala Lumpur like Navona, Shanghai, New York, Piccadilly, Grand Place. I am surprised that Chicago was on sale here this year but was informed it was an old stock. As for others I have to hunt them abroad like De la concorde, Madrid, Athens and San Fran.

Again I have to admit, some pens are expensive. Nonetheless, some good buy of the other city pens off set the expensive cost of the pens.

With the final pen ie. Berlin which I got it last Saturday, my dream of achieving the whole series was realised. cloud9.gif Many thanks to DeScribe (Aloysius) whom completed my series with Berlin. (No affiliation but a satisfied customer).

Best regards
Daeng

actually, one just went on ebay for $406. keep an eye out on ebay, here, and pentrace... one pops up for around that price (sometimes as little as $250!) every few months. personally, i'm lusting after the chicago but it'll be a while before i have even $400 sitting around to grab one. sad.gif
