Full Version: Mixing for viscosity

I've mixed inks to get different colors, but what about to achieve smoother ink flow? I've got an ink that I like the color of (Pelikan blue-black), but it doesn't flow too well in my MB146. Would I gain anything by mixing it with a freer flowing ink (obviously the resulting color will be something different)

Thanks,
Jason

You should be able to, just start with small amounts, and let it sit for a couple of days before loading a pen with it, just in case it gels or precipitates.

I beleive adding a surfactant such as dish soap should make it freer flowing. I know tryphon makes a product for this.

{A} Blue-black inks are available in a variety of dozens-hundreds of shades.
{B} I find that Pelikans b-b is/writes too dry (in any pen). Try out Skrip's, MB's, Lamy's b-bs instead. Or Herbin''s BLEU NUIT (somewhat grey). These all write wetter, smoother IMO. I.e. they all have a lower viscosity and/or a higher concentration of surfactants.
