Hi there,

Here's a quick question for you stationery buffs: what would you suggest as a good source of parchment stationery? Around 6x8 is fine, certainly smaller than Monarch or business size.

I haven't had much luck with the previous two posts I recently made: nobody seems to have experience with M brand; they have a refillable journal with promising paper. I suppose I'll just have to give it a try and see what happens. embarrassed_smile.gif

This question stems from the other post: I was looking for bound journals with parchment paper, just for something different, and could not find a thing on the net. Then I started looking simply for parchment paper and was astounded at the lack (other than business size) available!

Anyway, enough of my griping. If anyone has a good source or even a good idea of where to start looking for a good stationery supplier, specifically for parchment, I would appreciate it.

Before I forget, here is the bonus gripe: while searching the net for stationery, it amazed me how many 'stationary shops' there were out there! Unless it is run out of the back of a moving van, wouldn't all stores be stationary? Or are they figuring out the Earth rotates, therefore they have a special store? Here's an idea for a thread: what is YOUR favorite grammar gripe? rolleyes.gif

Thanks to all,
ScottT

my understanding is that stores that sold books and paper use to be run out of the backs of wagons and the first few that remained in one place making it easier for people to find were called stationary and the sellers stationers as to distinguish them from itinerant vendors

I bought some parchment in the calligraphy section of a craft store (like Michael's). Not sure if it's the real deal but it's clearly labeled parchment. I guess I always thought parchment would be more like the consistency of homemade paper.

have you tried www.graytex.com (no affiliation, just got curious from your post and did some research)? Also, Papyrus has paper made of cotton that looks like parchment.

Thanks for the information (and the history lesson!)

I have tried Papyrus and they aren't bad, I was just hoping there were other choices out there. (In a perfect world there would be thousands of choices, wouldn't there?)

Thanks again,

Pergamenata, available from www.paperinkarts.com is lovely, but I've only used it w/ dip pens and sumi ink --- not sure how well it works w/ fountain pen ink --- will have to dig some out and try it.

Thanks for the site, I appreciate the new info.

I ordered a catalog as many of their descriptions are without pictures. But a sheet size of 27"x39" ? Where would I find an envelope that big? unsure.gif Just kidding of course.

Thanks again,

Hardly a grammar error. Isn't this a spelling error?

While it certainly is a spelling error, I viewed it as a change in the way one views the sentence's meaning, given that the incorrect word, while indeed spelled incorrectly, was also a legitimate word. More of a syntactical error, at least the way I saw it.

If you'd be satisfied with a journal, you might check here. They appear to have 2 or 3 journals w/parchment-like paper. This one appeals to me.

If you have a Staples near you, check there. You may have to check a couple of them
as some stores carry items other stores don't. The carry Southworth paper and they make
Parchment in (if I recall correctly) Cream, Blue and Gray. It's 8 x 11.5. There are also
business sized matching envelopes.

Perhaps they just trying to boost the number of hits they get in searches. If your customers are searching for you as a stationary shop, you'd be stupid not to list yourself as such. Take a hit to your spelling pride for the higher traffic.

As for parchment, I've seen it at Papyrus and some craft store like Michael's. I was never really looking for it though, so it could be more readily available elsewhere.
