Which do you prefer, hard or soft covers?

Is the paper quality different in each? I have a hardcover, but was wondering if there was any difference in the softcover, which i like the "feel" of.

Are you talking Cahiers or softbound some other way..I noticed that the diarys are now in soft. Don't think there is any more variation than expected.

The hard cover is one of the major selling points for me re: Moleskine - otherwise I'd use something else. So, yeah, I prefer the hard cover.

I used to prefer hard cover, but then i bought a 18months planner in softcover (because the hardcover wasn't avaliable at the moment) and I fell in love with it.. Now i use both - soft cover for general writing at home or elsewhere at a desk, and hardcover for writing mostly "outdoors".
Paper quality is, I think, the same.

Im a diehard Mole fan and I use both. I tend to use softbacks for my fiction writing, the yeilding factor is important, gives my writing a more organic feel, which is important when you are creating something!!

For everything else I use hardbacks if I can, mainly for their business-like no-nonsense feel and their durability.
I have a small, red 18 mth diary and notebook 'twin set' and a black hardback reporters notebook, quad rules for notes I take at conventions, assemblies and conferences. I also transfer lecture notes from a scruffy, cheapo notepad, if they are going to be useful in the long term.

I always buy the black 'leather' moleskines, never tried cahiers, they've always seemed like the poor relation to me! I buy my Moles from Amazon when they are on offer, and will snap up soft and hardbacks indescriminately if they are in my price range.

Hard cover - because I'm not always writing at a desk.

Hardcover for sure. I used to have a ton of cahiers but gave them away. There were just too few pages and didn't hold up well in my bag. I used them during school which was fine because I could slip them into a folder or between books and it would stay nice and neat. But outside of that, I love the hardcovers.

I like both, the softcover Moleskines maybe a little better than the hardcovers. I glue a lot of stuff in my journals and the flexible covers wrap nicely around the swollen book block after some time.
AfterMyNap
Soft, all the way. Mainly because I use a leather cover, but I honestly just prefer it for the feel and that I can easily drape it over a table edge if I want to. I don't notice a difference in paper quality between the soft and hard covers.

Mos' def hardcover. I love hardcovers that are threadbound, with soft, butterlike paper.

But I can't afford too many, so when I want something similar I settle for the Pentalic "A-la Modeskines" (Probably the most daring name among imitators.), which are soft and a bit flimsy, but if you're careful they're really not bad. So far they're my favorite among what I refer to collectively as "Fakeskines"; the least sparkly (Though those PaperBlanks sure are appealing.), the most inexpensive, and with no lined versions to sort through, I'd even say the most versatile.

Though I don't see why they glue on the pages to the cover and then sew around the edge of it. That glue just isn't substantial.

I carry a softcover in my jean pocket to capture general thoughts; I have several hardcovers into which I transfer related topics from my general softcover. The hardcovers are to be kept; the softcovers are discarded when full.

"Discarded".....I can't handle that. I still get sad over notebooks that were lost or stolen years ago so to intentionally throw one away -- too much for me to bear!
