I found the perfect ink for me: Lamy Blue-Black. It's just the right color, I love that it changes color as it "cures," but I'm worried about nib damage. I'd like to hear about any damage, and what the nib was made of. Currently, it's sitting in a Parker 51 Special with an Octanium (read, stainless steel) nib. I'm also thinking of putting it into a Sheaffer Snorkel with a SS tube and a PdAg nib. Should I be worried?

PS - No ink stays in my pens longer than a couple of weeks before I get bored with it and flush it out with water and let the pen dry.

EDIT: could a mod please move this post to the Inky Thoughts forum? I clearly posted in the wrong one :S

First off, take the warnings with at least a smidgen of salt. The stuff isn't flaming pen death, and in the case of Lamy BB, it's less acidic than Quink Black.

For a Steel nibbed pen, or a pen with any non-gold metal sitting in contact with the ink it should be a daily user- you have to keep the ink moving. Also, flush it once a week- probably overkill, but I'd rather give overkill advice than the alternative.

It's a gold nib and there are no other metal parts in contact with the ink just flush it once a month and keep it in regular use, daily if possible.

I'd have some reservations about putting it in a Snorkel, both because of the Snorkel tube and that every Snorkel I've used writes dryly, such that I doubt how good Lamy BB would look coming out of one. But, in the end, I'd do it myself if my Snorkels were wetter- just keep that sucker flushed, and get the entire section dipped, wipe down the Snorkel tube with your fingers when you flush. I'd be doing it once a week with the Snorkel.

I really need to do a review of Lamy BB in the wet pens I use- it can be a gorgeous ink in a wetter pen. Not that it isn't nice otherwise, but most people are rather underwhelmed.

I'm guessing that, as far as corrosion is concerned, you'd see little to none in a PdAg nib. I've been hoping to find some broken PdAg and steel nibs to do some tests with the three ferrogallic inks I have, letting the nibs, and some SS washers I bought, sit in an ink bath for a couple months. If anyone has any kaput SS, PdAg, or various gold nibs to donate to this let me know- I'll send you some ink as a token of my gratitude.

Well my 51, Duofolds, Souverän Ms, Optima, Charleston, Crest ... and so forth... seem to like Lamy b-b.
I don't have a Snorkel.

Looks great in my more flexible Swans, put it in a P51 for the first time today. I love the shading. cloud9.gif
