Full Version: Waterman Carene

Hi Everyone,

I am thinking of selling a Waterman Carene and need some help putting a value to it. The pen is a Waterman Carene Royal Purple with a Binderized .5mm cursive italic nib. I do not have a box or the papers. A converter is included. I'm going back and forth as to whether or not I should sell this item. I know that this particular color is very hard to come by and it is a very eye-catching pen. I thought having some input as to the value may help (or hinder!) my decision to sell.

Thanks in advance.

Rebecca

Also, the purple one was discontinued earlier, so it's harder to find. smile.gif

The ULTRAMARINE BLUE will be discontinued in December, it is not realy different from the PURPLE if you have not the 2 models in your hand, you can see below the price it has been sold next week (new genuine...):

When I bought an ordinary black one a couple of years ago, I really struggled to get one under £50 - I was pleased when I got one for £47 - which I guess is around the $90 mark - if I could find any for $45 used in good nick I'd buy the lot!

While you may currently have examples of this particular color at a good price, add the Binderized .5mm cursive italic nib and see what the price goes to. (Not counting postage).

And I too will buy the lot of good condition used ones for $45.

I'll take JML's factory stock happily. In fact, I usually do when I have any spare cash! blush.gif

As far as I can tell, the ultramarine blue is not a rare color. Far from it actually.

The binderization probably adds to the value of the pen, but that I cannot comment on, as I have no experience in that area.

The picture was of ultramarine, but that wasn't the color the OP actually has. Purple's been really difficult to find.

Oh, I was confused!

So J.M.L. was trying to devalue the Royal Purple and sell his Royal Blue pens in their place by claiming they were "almost the same".

Now I see!

Here are some links to a few of my pics. Sorry for the quality. I only use my camera for recreational/family photos so it's not too high tech!

PS I hope this question didn't cause any hurt feelings. I only wanted some opinions.

Rebecca,

Very nice pen!

I love the color.

Rebecca - amazing pen!!! thumbup.gif
The colour and the nib make this really unusual.
Why are you thinking of selling?

No, sorry, the MARKET price of the PURPLE and of the ROYAL blue is the same, take a look at this auction:

If I give you a pen (a royal blue for example), not sure that you will be able to give me the right colour between the blue and the purple if you have not the purple to compare, myself I have made the error 2 or 3 times and have sent unfortunately the bad one, J.M.L.

The main reason I'm thinking of selling is so that I can free up some money to purchase a Pilot Custom 823.

My Carene is beautiful and very eye catching but I'm just not over the moon for it. It doesn't feel quite right in my hand.

Sorry to highjack this thread but ...

NO, you are still pushing your Blue pens.
And your other Blue pens are listed at, what, $120 plus shipping?
If no one wants your Blue pens that doesn't devalue Rebecca's Purple one.

Also, just because you can't tell the difference between the two colors it doesn't mean there isn't one or that we can't tell the difference.

It still looks like you're devaluing Rebecca's pen so you can make sales.

Rebecca, the combination of color and nib is great. I'm sorry the pen doesn't work for you, because I think it's fantastic. What ink are you using in it for the scan you posted? It matches the pen perfectly. And.. if it's taking up too much room at your house, you can always send it my way! biggrin.gif

No problem of course, I will list next week 1 CARENE ROYAL PURPLE FP with no reserve, so you will see the real MARKET price and will be very surprised, at 120USD nobody want the ULTRAMARINE BLUE, I can only sell them when I list them as auction without any reserve, the price is usualy between 45 and 50GBP, not more, but the best solution to see the price of Rebecca's pen is to list it on flebay without reserve, it is always the buyer who make the price, never the seller, but for me it is better to keep it, you can find a lot of CARENE FP on the market so the prices are always very cheap, the CARENE is not difficult to find at a cheap price (it is not a MAN 100!!), J.M.L.

Sorry for all the hullabaloo this post has caused. I just wanted to say that the Royal Violet/Purple Carene has been sold. Thanks to all who made inquiries. I'd prefer not to divulge what I sold the item for--I don't want to cause any more problems. PM if you reaaly want to know.
