Hi Everyone,

Just joined yesterday. Have been recently taking some interest in fountain pens and stumbled upon this forum and what a pleasant surprise to see the different aspects of pens being discussed here. I don't know much about fountain pens and the history until I started reading about it about a week ago and got me very interested in this.

I am from Salt Lake City, Utah. My other collecting hobby is that I collect dive watches and am a part of some forums where I share my watch experiences. My experience with fountain pens is very limited and had used them in school up to the 12th grade (1989) after which I never used them. I used to own a Hero hooded Nib style fountain pen.

My dad used to have a Parker (he bought it in 1972) and I never realized its value until last weekend. I need to find out if he still has it. All this reading last week and over the weekend, I made my first purchase last night. I bought two Parker 100's. Cobalt Black with Silver Trim. I bought the fountain pen (Fine Nib) and the roller ball (Fine). Bought it from deal Tuesday's (package cost me less than $200.00, looked like a pretty good deal). Thanks to this forum which is where I found the website.

One of the main reasons I chose this model is that I am not a big fan of the exposed nib (conventional style) since I never used it growing up. I prefer the covered or hooded nib style. Let's see how it goes. I need to buy some accessories - Ink, cleaning stuff, Blotting paper (Not sure why I need this, but keep seeing in the forums that everyone has this) and anything else I need to keep my pen in good working condition. (Advise is appreciated here)

Anyways, looking forward to learning a lot about fountain pens and sharing my experiences on this new found hobby.

Regards,
Sunny K

Welcome to FPN, Sunny.
There is a lot of great info on this forum, so make yourself at home.

I know that there are a bunch of people in the SLC-Provo/Orem area who are also into fountain pens, and they have a Wasatch Pen Club.
Look up Prof Matt Christiansen at the Chinese Dept at BYU- he was organising the meetings.

Hi there. Glad you found this place because there is no better forum as for tons of info about everything involving FPs.
Sounds like your Dad's pen is a Parker 51? My favourite pen! (it's from about 1968).

Hello Sunny K,

My father use to have a vintage Parker 51 that he used until the bladder broke, and completely ruined a business suit and white shirt that he was wearing that day. Since then, he always used ball-point pens for the rest of his life. I wish I had that 51, as it would be a nice addition to my collection.

Above all else, welcome to the FPN! biggrin.gif

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. I look forward to learning a lot over here.

Will keep you guys posted on my first purchase. Should receive it next week. I need to get some inks and other accessories.

Wolverine1: Thanks for the heads up on the Utah Wasatch pen club. I will look that up.
