Full Version: Skyline variant

Recently I have added some interesting variants to the standard Wahl-Eversharp Pen line-up. These items are shown in some rarer of the Wahl or Eversharp historical data, but no always in each aspect or detail. Below is the first of these reviews that I intend to post as time permits.

It is a Sterling SIlver Cap Skyline pen. Sterling silver cap pens let alone full sterling silver pens are rather rare, and command a significant premium over the standard Skylines by maybe 2 to 3 times. This particular one is additionally unusual in that it contains a WAHL nib and a WAHL clip. We have previously seen posts about the WAHL skylines and speculated as to just why Eversharp, Inc. chose to issue a very short run of Skylines with the WAHL labeling. Generally, the prevailing belief is that it was necessary to do so in order to assert, re-assert the WAHL trademark by manufacturing actual production items. The more often seen of these WAHL elements are found on Moire pattern pens.

This is the first Sterling cap Skyline pen I have owned, or seen for that matter, with the WAHL brand as opposed to the EVERSHARP labeling usually found on Skylines. Naturally (as is the case with the others of such WAHL Skylines) the nib is also marked WAHL. Note that the font of the word WAHL is far different from the font found on the WAHL pens from the 1920's or that found on the WAHL_EVERSHARP branded items.

Take a close look at these elements of this pen and you will see what I mean.

If your Wahleye ever come across such an item you are well advised to scoop it up! They are pretty rare.

Gorgeous pen Syd, and thanks for the lesson. By the way, I wonder if the Wahl Skylines came in sets with a pencil, too?

Great find, Syd! clap1.gif

Any idea of roughly when the sterling capped Skyline pen was produced?

Not exactly, but judging from the fact that all the other ones I have seen with the WAHL logos were on the Moires, would hazard a guess of about 1944 + or - a year.
