Full Version: Boheme Cap Will Not Post

I have a stainless Boheme with the purple amethyst on the cap. After using it for a while, the cap will no longer post. Here's where it gets odd. I took it to a Boutique in Charlotte a while back and this is what they told me. They said that the cap from another Boheme will post on it, and my cap would post on another Boheme....which I know couldn't be. I mean if another cap would post, and mine post on the other pen, how could it not post on mine? The threads all look fine as well....so I have no idea.

Then they said it would have to be sent off and gave me a cost to replace the entire cap. After the things they said, I opted out, obviously.

Anyone else have this issue? If so, what happened and is it fixable?

Hmmmm. Thats the weirdest thing... Since its a screw on cap, and the caps are apparently interchangeable, something must have shrunk or expanded... If the boutique can't even suggest a solution (reasonable), then I'm at a loss for what to do.

We often see this on vintage pens. The threads of the cap and barrel one pen are worn enough that they do not engage properly. But if you swap out the cap from another pen, it works - on both pens. The reason is that the barrel on the other pen has deep enough threads to work with your cap, and the cap from the other pen has deep enough threads to work on your pen. I suspect that this is what is happening with your Boheme.

We would swap caps if all other things were equal. The other techniques that I would use to get the barrel threads to engage with the cap on a vintage pen can not be use on a Boheme.

Is this worth the money to fix or does it really matter? I dont' think all of their pens even post do they? They wanted around $135 to do it, so I've hesitated at pulling the trigger.

How long have you had the pen? It might be a warranty item.
Titivillus
That has to be really annoying. And I am surprised that they do not consider it a warranty item

I got it as a gift, so I'm not sure where it came from...about 5 years or so ago. So, either way, its not covered at this point.

Did you see this thread http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=78453?
Might be worth another try - or contacting MB directly.

If I (being a machinist) were to repair this problem, I would make a sleeve with new threads in it and some arbitrary outside dimension. Then I could bore out the cap with the threads that don't work to exactly the internal dimension of the sleeve's outside dimension (that arbitrary number). Then I would glue the sleeve into the cap and Voila, you have new threads. Probably wouldn't take me more than three hours at $125 per hour....... $375. Make Mont Blanc's solution sound reasonable, doesn't it?
