After much thought, I decided to buy a bottle of Rohrer & Klingner Scabiosa. Unfortunately, Pendemonium doesn't carry that color and it is out of stock at the Inked Nib's site. Anyone know of a shop in the U.S. that has this ink in stock?

I won't tell you how much time I spent looking for one, in Canada or the U.S. The only place I could find was the the Writing Desk in the UK. (www.thewritingdesk.co.uk). It was hard to get a hold of them because of the time difference, but when I did service was excellent and shipping was faster than anywhere else I have ordered from

Kris

P.S. The ink was well worth the hassle.

One of my favorite inks. I love the color of Scabiosa! wub.gif It's not that easy to locate.

I bought my bottle from The Inked Nib in the U.S.:
http://www.inkednib.com/products.asp?cat=16

They had it at a good price, shipped quickly, and it arrived in good order. I would order from them again.

Two caveats: Scabiosa is an iron gall ink. Search FPN about the use of iron gall inks. The color is in the purple family too, so be aware of possible staining.

To be on the safe side, I don't use it in my prized pens. I use this ink in a pen that writes really well but wouldn't break my heart if it suffered from using this type and color of ink. I clean out the pen between refills and do not leave this ink sit in the pen for long periods of time. I recommend you do the same.

That said, and if the above hasn't scared you off, IMO it is a BEAUTIFUL, dusty aubergine color well worth the precautions. I have used it for a year and a half now with no problems whatsoever.

Enjoy!

I'm amused that 2/3 of replies refer to the site that the original poster noted was out of stock and was asking for an alternative to... headsmack.gif

The Inked Nib is the only U.S. source that I know, Ada. Perhaps Natalie can let you know when she has it in stock again.

Welcome to FPN!

I was hoping to avoid the hassle (and the cost) of ordering from the the U.K., but I'm reconsidering that after reading your post. I think you've given me the encouragement I need to go ahead and get it from the Writing Desk. Thanks!

I'm been dying to get this! I bought Salix (and a few others) from The Inked Nib. She's been out of stock of almost everthing for ages, unfortunately that includes Scabiosa. Not sure when she will get more. Pendemonium carries R&K inks, but they don't carry Salix or Scabiosa because they're iron gall- which means a small bit of added care is required, and more importantly any mention of extra care tends to confuse and scare people away from certain brands, colors, or categories of ink. A shame!

Ada- do you have R&K Salix yet? If you'd be up to it, I'd be very grateful to do a trade with you.

Don't worry, you didn't scare me off -- I like iron gall ink.

I don't think I have the patience to wait for her to get it back in stock, particularly after reading the raves about it in this thread. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

If you don't mind German sources you may check www.missing-pen.de.
I don't know about shipping to the USA but Rolf Thiel from missing pen should tell you if you email him.
