I bought this pen in Japan, but I have no idea what pen it is. It is a checkered metal barrel with "PLATINUM" in black on the cap. The nib is a fine-point nib with "14K-W.G." stamped on it, followed by a big "p" and some characters.

Help me solve the mystery! What is this pen?
Richard
The nib says it all. The pen is a fairly typical Platinum model.

Platinum Pen Co. Been in business for decades, still in business now. Look at the pinned topics in the Pens from the Land of the Rising Sun forum for more manufacturer information (website etc).

Your pen is a 1980s stainless steel model, machined checkered barrel pattern with black etching. Nice 14K white gold nib, probably a good writer but might be a tad dry for some. Takes a standard Platinum cartridge or Platinum converter. No model name that I have seen, and Platinum primarily used a numbering system, so the model number would be something like PMB-5000.

Nice pen. That barrel pattern is not seen too often - enjoy! smile.gif

I have one of those pens; very nice writer. I think the model may be F-250. I got the pen from speerbob, so he may know for sure.

I like it! A more than fair resemblance to a 75, which I'm looking for, too.

There is a photo of it in a old Platinum catalog in this neat-o Platinum pen website set up by a Platinum collector:

Perhaps someone who can read Japanese can tell you what the model # is

It's also pictured here http://www.platinumplace.tc/Collect3.htm
(its the last one in the "Stainless Steel Line" section)

edit: Forgot to say "Cool pen!" cool.gif
Nice purchase....
