Apologies if this has been posted, but I recently visited Chicago and stopped in at Century Pens. I bought a VP nib for $30 and was told that the price will be going up to $70 for the new year. Might be time to stock up!

OMG, the sky really is falling! At least my "pen portfolio" is doing fine, on paper anyway. (My attempt on a witty play on words.)

Thanks for the tip.

Did they give a reason? That'll make the VP's that more costly as well. I remember when they are going for just under $100. Does this mean the VP's will be about $200 base price???

I don't believe it.

Depressing.

Having said that though, this is the one price rise I can't complain that loudly about, as personally, the VP is just about the best value pen out there. Reliable, innovative (even after 40 years), smooth writing, and very well built. I paid the equivalent of $400 for one (limited edition), and it's worth every penny.

I hope you're right!

I don't have any more info than what he gave me, but I imagine the pen price will go up as well. What I don't understand is why the increase is so sharp.

Unfortunately, this depressing news is true. I confirmed it at Flax (Los Angeles) this afternoon.

Ahh! This is terrible! Anyone know when the increase will take effect? It's only a matter of time before my girlfriend or I manage to drop one of our VPs. I sure don't want to pay $70 for a new nib. Especially not when I can get a custom stub for that price.

This notice has been up on nibs.com for a few weeks: "Notice of price increase: On January 1, 2009 the retail price for the Pilot Vanishing Point will increase to $160.00. Our current price for the standard pens is $111.00. Our new price will be $128.00. The exotic VP's will also increase in price. We suggest, if you are interested, you buy before the end of this year."

That's about a 15% increase. Yes, it's an increase, but not quite so over the top...

Is the cost increase to occur only in America, or in Japan as well?

New VPs show up on Yahoo Japan regularly for 20-40%, and sometimes more, off list. Should prices be increasing sale will be more brisk at better prices. Am not sure this is occurring yet. If prices increase, will ther eb stronger demand for older VPs? At what prices?

Good luck.

Wow! Eventually I want to get a Fermo. I currently have a Décimo...but I don't have earmarked funds to get the Fermo right now as I'm getting the M90...dang! Hmm...
