Greetings,
I am looking to get my first Pelikan.. needs EF butter smooth nib and similar in size to the Parker Sonnett. is the black with green stripes a candidate? Forgive my ignorance but I have had only experience with Parkers, Mont Blancs, Watermans & Sailors..and hence apprecite any advise from Pelikan users. Oh also needs to be a workhorse pena and ideally take cartridegs or use a conertor..

Apreciations in advance

In size you're looking at a Pelikam M600. You could get green, red, blue stripe with black cap. The nib would be wonderfully smooth just about like your Sailor pen. Pelikans do not take cartridges; they have a piston built in - sort of like a built-in, permanent converter. Good luck.

Pelikan do take convertor and ink cartridge , but for lower end of pelikan like p381, p380, p390, p395.

Souveran series m4XX , m6XX, m8XX, m1xxx using piston technology.

Do not worry too much about the EF nib. Look at other post.

Feiye , she just purchase m3XX with EF nib.

wonderful writing.

The only Souveräns with EF are the M400, 600, 700, 800, 900 and 1000.
So you do have a choice. But do you have the dough?

Whatever you buy, you'll never be sorry. These will all outlast you, yourself.

Keep in mind that the nibs from some series Pelikans can be interchanged with other series Pelikans. So even if your pen of choice doesn't have an EF nib you can get one from a compatible series. Richard Binder has a good chart on his Pelikan page explaining what nibs will go into what pens.

The Ductus (p3100/p3110) also sports a cartridge that is supposed to be "innovative". Haven't seen one live, so I don't know what is special about the cartridge.

I like the design, but I am not fond of cartridges.

To start I'll say that I am a Pelikan fan. Now I'll say that Pelikan EF nibs are often a little harsh/scratchy. For that reason you might be better off buying one from Richard Binder whom will make sure that the pen writes smoothly. Yes, I know it'll be more expensive that way, but you know it'll be right.
Best regards, Ken.
