I have a Balance Marine Marble FP and a pencil, but the FP has a much more brownish color. Did Sheaffer market different tones of Marine Marble, or it is just decoloration?
ANM
From your description, I would guess that the pen has discolored with time. The ink sac is most likely the cause of the discoloration, while there is none in a pencil to discolor it.

Julikkp,

AMN is correct. Attached are a few images of a near mint Marine Marbled OS Balance to show the color of a fountain with no discernible discloration.

I think there are (at least) two shades of Marine Green; one is has lots of black and few, dark almost emerald green patches (older) - the newer one is much lighter in appereance and has more, lighter olive green patches.

Cheers

Michael

discoloration, though of course one cannot (as an aside) rule out some batch variation having occurred in the general sense.

Beautiful pen.....

Thanks Glenn. A recent acquisition at the NY/NJ Pen Show. There were some really outstanding Balances up for sale there. My only complaint was I spent my budget too quickly.

Let's not talk about spending one's budget too quickly at the NJ Show, shall we wink.gif

I can after all... relate.

Oooooh, the pain. The pain of it all. lticaptd.gif

Budget?
With this I am not familiar.

Some photos of my marines huah!
The larger is 4.75" and 1/2" dia.
Smaller one has the full flex nib.

Sorry for the huge chink of lint blush.gif

David,

I can claim credit of easing your pain a little by offsetting some of your acquisitions by buying a very nice BHR Duofold Jr. from you. Thanks again.

Ah, that was you. I was glad the pen found a nice home. Of course, that I bought 100 more pens... headsmack.gif crybaby.gif

At least some of the new old ones also are nice...

OK. If we are to play Show And Kvell, i guess i can toss up some of my Marine Green marbled Sheaffers

A Standard set Autograph (solid gold trim) including the only Autograph green golf pencil i've ever seen.

The most scarce color Sheaffer combo- Marine Green- in uncatalogued "Lifetime" trim.

Marine Green OS Balance with nice color

Another shot of an OS Marine Green marbled with good color. Oh yeah next to it is Marine Green Marble OS with quite scarce double cap-band

Buried in my collection in this shot is an Autograph oversized Marine Green. Oh yeah, and a Marine Green OS with scarce double capbands

Think i'm getting a headache...

Gotta run...

As always Great pens David.

I was merely trying to show the difference in the colors of the pens.
