I received a vintage Sheaffer from a fellow collector in the Philippines, and would like to know what model it is and more information. Is it a PFM? I looked at some pictures and it looks like it.

No, not a PFM. Too small.
The key to identifying this is the bump of plastic on top of the nib and the nib itself.

This looks like a Sheaffer that is colloquially known as the "Dolphin" pen.

Sheaffer labeled it by a series of numbers: the 500, 800 & 1000. They are 500 (white metal cap & nib), 800 (all plastic capgold nib), and 1000 (gold cap and nib). Can't tell if yours is 500 or 100 by the photos.

At risk of varied opinions, I'd value retail ranging from $25 to $70 depending on condition, filler (touchdown less common), and actual model (gold harder to find).

Pen Hero has a nice article featuring this pen. Recommend reading here: Pen Hero Essay Sheaffer Dolphin

Mine would be the 500. I thought it was an ED filler, but turns out it's a C/C. Good thing I've got a bunch of Sheaffer cartridges here!

how is your pen working?

i have one i purchased earlier this year for $8 USD at an antique shop, but the nib is too firm and scratchy. mine is a TD filler.

Not that great, actually. It's like, it writes, then after a while it's gonna stop. Then you have to wait for a while before it writes again. I tried soaking it in water overnight, but it didn't work.

I've had an 800 and a 500, both TDs, and while the point is unspeakably firm, I can't say I've met with any scratchy issues, nor flow problems. On the latter, a 1:10 ammonia solution for the soak is probably worth trying, and you could even put in into a cartridge and try writing with it for a while. Who knows what festive colours might emerge?

thanx guys. mine doesn't have any flow issues, but it's not a smooth writer. right now i have it inked up with PR DC supershow blue and that seems to glide a bit better on the paper.
