I won this pen on eBay from vendor engeika --

It is a 2008 model 1911M with a 14K medium nib.
I am very pleased with it, and although it is one of my more expensive pens, it is now my daily carry.

However, I have noticed that the ink level is going down in the cartridge at a rate that is higher than I am writing.

When I screw the cap on, the section comes up against the soft inner cap, and I screw it a further 1/8th turn so that it is firm without being hard. It seems that fluid is still evaporating out from the cap.

If I blow through the cap, some air does come out from the gap under the clip. However, if the inner cap is working properly, this shouldn't matter.

Have any other Sailor owners noticed this? Do I have a faulty cap seal? It is just that I notice it because the barrel is transparent?

Should I just write more so that the ratio of ink used:ink evaporated becomes more favourable?

I bought one of these recently from Engeika, but I haven't paid too much attention to the ink volume. It doesn't seem to have dried out, however, as far as I can tell. Does the ink look darker?

Also, is your nib toothy?

Hi,

I personally think that your pen is fine, but without seeing it, I can tell you if what you are seeing is a problem or not. Sailor pens often have inner caps that seal very well.

I am using a Sailor Nano Black cartridge, so I can't tell about the ink colour. We are talking about shades of ultra matt black here...

The nib has a touch of tooth, while still being very smooth and a pleasure to write with.

I have just acquired a 1985 NIB full sized Sailor 1911. I will have to compare the two.

That was my understanding about the inner caps, which is why I was surprised when I started seeing the ink level going down.

Mind you, if I had not bought a transparent pen, I wouldn't see the problem, and therefore it wouldn't exist... rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

That's what I was going to say.

By the way, I think this is quite a handsome pen, with the gold-tone fittings showing through. And fairly inexpensive, too, compared to a number of other transparent pens. I just wish the nib in mine were less toothy. It will probably be going to Michael Masuyama soon.
