i was having some vintage hamiltons repaired by my watch guy here in manila today when i espied two boxes of pens he was keeping in a corner. natch, i pored over them, and picked out a gold french-made waterman with a lovely ripple finish. not being much of a fan of modern watermans, i had no idea it was a waterman C/F. couldn't resist it and walked away with it, minus $50 from my wallet. here's a pic of the pen, from ebay.es:

anyone know much about this pen? i did some googling and discovered they were made in the 50s. my C/F looks like it had been made yesterday!

The higher-quality French-made C/F pens date a bit later, with most from the '60s and '70s -- direct competitors to the Parker 75, at least in France.

thanks, mine's a french-made one, and until i looked closer and saw the waterman clip, i thought it was a parker 75 variation. the ripple finish is really quite lovely, and there isn't one ding to be found on this baby wink.gif

Actually, I just finished writing a letter to my niece at college with my Waterman C/f, filled with Private Reserve Avacado. (I wonder if they know they misspelled that - shouldn't it be Avocado? At any rate, it's a great green, perfect for my cream-colored Crane Stationery. My niece loves to receive letters from me, and I love to use my fountain pens. It's a win-win situation.

Congrats on the new fountain pen.

many thanks, todd. my C/F has an F or XF nib and i'm a B or BB kind of guy, so as beautiful as this pen is, it might go on the trading block at some point, but i'm still happy to have found it in such great shape for a reasonable price.

I, too, enjoy writing with my Expert medium nib in my journal or when I'm editing. However, for writing letters, you can't beat a fine or extra fine for getting those letters crisp and clean and very readable. I tend to get a lot of feathering on my Crane Stationery when I'm using my medium nibs. Even the fine-nibbed C/f has a bit of feathering when I apply a bit of pressure to the softer nib. At any rate, the gold C/f is a gorgeous pen, and you should keep it as an alternative to your paintbrush broads. However, I'd be more than happy to transfer that pen from your stable to mine. roflmho.gif

I do thumbup.gif. Mine's a red with gold trim and a 14k nib, which has a matching pencil friend. I have no idea whether it is medium or fine. It's a very nice pen, just a pain in the behind to get a converter for. I'm refilling some cartridges that (luckily) were in the box.

I forgot, nice find. bunny01.gif
