I went to a local art supply/architect type place that's been around forever and score four Osmiroid points. I got a bold and a medium italic nib and then a bold and medium regular nib. Also, picked up a Rhodia pad, just to see what all the fuss is about. Can't wait to get home and try these nibs.

They had a bazillion of these nibs in a display that probably hasn't been touched in 20 years. She only charged me $2.75 for each nib.

Okay, your mission now (should you choose to accept it) is to go back, catalog all the nibs, then take orders.

I'll take one of each for $3.00 plus s/h....

William

On my way back to the office I seriously thought, "Hmm. I wonder how much they'd take for the whole dang display?"
NABodie
Well if you do go back I'd be intrested in one of each also.
wvbeetlebug
Sounds like a plan.

Run, don't walk, and go and get those nibs! Holey Moley Batman. $2.75 is amazing!

Congrats!

OK, I may be asking an over obvious question, but that's never stopped me before.

What the heck's an Osmiroid nib? Is it made out of meteor stones, or Kryptonite? Why do you want one? Why should I want one?

[edit]Oh, I get it. You want me to put a non-approved nib on my Esterbrook pen. Won't that void the warranty?[/edit]
Firefyter-Emt
Direct swap replacement screw in nibs for an Esterbrook. Then add in that these are stub nibs for sub $3.00 and there you go!

PS, gold plated steel too!

Brock

An interesting website on the nibs.

The calligraphy nibs fit Esterbrook pens. The screw in nibs were discontinued around 1980.

Osmiroid were a British Company who made my first fountain pen .. good reliable cheap .. ring any bells yet? Most nibs I see are italic btw

*******************

So yes please wvbeetlebug count me in for a non italic medium SOFT if you are re-visting the store (if they haven't got one I'd still go for an Italic medium) TIA assuming no Conus restrictions wink.gif

As well as :- Fine Soft / Medium Soft / Broad Soft ta
wvbeetlebug
Wow! I didn't realize I'd generate such a response. In any case, I am going to try and go back to that place soon and buy a bunch more. I'm even thinking about seeing if they'll just sell me the whole lot. ::evil laugh::

When I get them I will be sure to post here in the forum.
Firefyter-Emt
Well... did you get them yet! ninja.gif

Just kidding, Cathy!

You do realize the look you will get by walking in to a store and asking to buy a display of dusty old fountain pen nib, Right? I wish I could be there!
ANM
Cathy, if you do get some more, I'd be interested in filling in the gaps I have in my Osmroid old style nibs. I have
B-2
B-4
Italic Fine Straight
Italic Medium
Italic Inter M straight
Italic broad straight
Roland fine soft
Music
Sketch
Copperplate

Anyone else, I have two extra Italic Broad straight. I would consider a swap for one of those for any nib you might have and want to trade.

PS I am not all that interested in O nibs or new style shadow nibs. I already have 4 sizes of those.
wvbeetlebug
Ha! I haven't had a chance to call them. I will definitely post what they say when I tell them.
wvbeetlebug
I finally had time to go back to that store, buy what nibs I could and sort them all out.

Here is a list of the nibs I have available:

Rola Fine Hard
Rola Medium Hard
Rola Medium Soft
Rola Broad

Italic Broad Straight

Sketch ALL SOLD

Nibs are $5 each.
Price includes shipping within the US via USPS. International shipping slightly extra.
Paypal is preferred, but I will also accept a check or money order as well.

Sorry but there were no Copperplate nibs available. (And no I didn't just keep them for myself.) tongue.gif

Cathy, I am in for at least one of the Italic broad nibs.

What does the "Rola" refer to?

Rola nibs are round writing nibs.
Firefyter-Emt
Thank you, I had not see it listed that way before and was a bit curious!

Cathy, PM sent
wvbeetlebug
I have updated the list. Sketch nibs are all gone.
WillAdams
Darn, I was hoping for more of the smaller italic sizes.

William

wvbeetlebug
Me too. I replied to your PM.
wvbeetlebug
There are still plenty of nibs available. I wanna make sure you guys get first dibs before I venture on to The Marketplace.
Firefyter-Emt
Cathy, I recieved my italic nib in today and I love it. It's now the new nib in my desk pen. Very defined, no where near a stub nib, but a true italic.

I will confess, I had to take out my dremmel tool that I polish Estie nibs with and whip that gold wash off the nib. It came off nice and easy and looks awesome now. It seems to run a bit dry with the Noodlers BSB I keep in my desk pen, but we shall see.

Cathy, I am sending you a PM for a couple more too!

wvbeetlebug
Wow! I had no idea they would shine up so nice! I'm glad you received your nib and you are enjoying it.

Aunt Babe
Cathy, will send PM...now!

Firefyter, what material did you use to polish off the gold? That looks awesome!!
Firefyter-Emt
I cheat a little bit, all my Esterbrook nibs as well as any refurbished pens for others that I have done look like that or better. I use a dremmel tool and polishing wheels to do this. Some need a hard felt wheel (1" wheel and emery compound) and for the finish polish or nibs in mint shape, I use a loose cotton 1" wheel and white diamond polishing compound.
Now for the disclaimer: You must be ever so carefull as you can catch a nib if the tool is presented the wrong way. You have to keep the wheel spinning away from the tip of any edges. One catch and the nib will be ruined, or if you are lucky just tossed across the room.

For these nibs it took very little to polish off the gold with the emery compound. Once I had that done, I cleaned the nib and switched to the white diamond. This will "color" the metal and achieve the super high shine of polished stainless. (like new chrome) I also use a larger 4" wheel in my shop to polish the pens. I can achieve the same look on the metal hardware of the pen as well as polishing the body too. You do need experiance in buffing to do this, one wrong move will ruin a pen. Done properly, the pens can look almost like new. Those who have recieved pens that I have refurbished know what I am talking about. embarrassed_smile.gif

If anyone wants, I will polish them to silver for free as long as you pay the shipping back. (A buck or two in a padded envelope) I am pretty reasonable for refurbing the pens too, the Esties are so easy I still enjoy doing it. Just send me a PM if you are interested.

Hi, Cathy. I got the nibs (a rolatip mdium, a rolatip broad and a broad italic), they work great! Thanks -
wvbeetlebug
Awesome! Glad you received them and that they are working out.
Judybug
Good grief! Are you people telling me that an Osmiroid nib will fit in an Esterbrook pen? What kind of Esterbrook? Any Esterbrook? I'm off to my craft/hobby/junk room to see if I can unearth that box of Osmiroid nibs left over from a calligraphy course I took aeons ago.

Yes! I've been using these Osmiroid nibs in my Esterbrooks for years.

Rola Medium Hard
Rola Broad

Received the Rolatip medium today. What a surprising nib> needs a bit of pressure but gives a nice line variation & shading with Havana Brown.
Thanks
wvbeetlebug
Glad you got the nib and you are enjoying it. The medium is one of my favorites.
