I bought this at the antique store I work at the other day. I definitely can't find another like it. I hate that the pictures aren't better but the camera likes to reflect off the glass. I talked to the owner of the store and he knows nothing about Sheaffer's and he went back to look at it and by style and construction he thought it was from the 1910s. It is certainly possible that the name has been added but it sure looks original to me. All original paint. The power supply is probably from the 1920s. With the brass post down the side going to the lamp up top several people have suggested that it could have been carbide originally. There are two layers. The flat blue layer at the bottom that is easily visible and then a black small box higher up at an angle to display also. There is one simple drawer in the back. So I want to know. What do you think about it? As Sheaffer's collectors is this legit or a later makeup? I have little doubt about it myself but I wanted to know if anyone else had seen one or even heard about one like this before? I probably will hang onto it but I am curious what kind of value I should put on it should I sell it in the future. I just think it is really neat and I let it stay in the shop less then a week before I had it. I also have pictures of it on photobucket. It is at

The only thing that looks out of place in that unit is the table it's setting on. The case might have been attached to the older base. Most of the time those pen cases go for $1500, to $2000.

I'd guess $400-600

This style cabnet is not in the catalogues though I have seen at least one before. The typical style has a full cabinet beneath with short feet, often ball and claw in the late teens. The logo used on the glass suggests the later '20's to me. I own this size from 1919. These cabinets run from $300-$400.

Saw one just like yours on eBay within the last year or two. Never did check back to see what it went for.

I have seen several for sale but never less than a thousand in antique stores around here. Of course they take a long time to sell at that price though. There is an Aiken Lambert pen case about half that size in a store in Abilene with a 1500 price on it. Several in Salina with pens in them and a not for sale sign on the case itself.

ANM;
I don't doubt that a $1,000 is asked but, as a buyer I wouldn't ever go over $500 and I own one. A friend of mine owns 6 or 7 of these and he wouldn't go more than about $400. Those prices are specifically for Sheaffer cabinets made in the teens and twenties. I'd expect Parker to go for more and lesser sized, quality makers to go for more as well but, off makers take exactly the right buyer to find them. If you offer me $1,000 to $1,500 for mine I'm likely as not to sell it to you - it is just ridiculously too much money.
Cabinets from the '50's actually don't often sell and are just disposed of as too big for most people to bother with.

First, I believe the glass and the base/legs are all together as a standing case, not a table top model.
I recently picked up a 1919 model like Roger's for $200. A good buy, though after close study, with Roger's to compare, we determined the glass was a good sandblasted (logo) replacement. Be that as it may, the piece is otherwise original.
I recently found a similar size and shaped case from the Dunn Pen Company. Though the owner was using it for antiques display, I convinced him to give me a price. Well under $1000.
Based on all the hunting in the wild and all the cases I have seen, I have to say that I've not seen this size case with 4 digit pricing in any form or brand. However, I have, seen rather large 50's displays approximate 4 digits.
The photographed piece above is a nice one and I'm sure it is being thoroughly enjoyed.

I happened upon a case 2 months ago, that originated in NW Iowa. The top looks very similar to yours, but mine has a bottom cabinet with a glass face on it as well. The bottom cabinet has both a front (display) and back storage area and is otherwise all wood. I'll try to throw in some pictures sometime soon.
If the price is $400+ on it...I got a deal
Thanks
