I took these pictures for a potential trade which did not work (and I am not very sad about it smile.gif)
Here it is a glorious gold filled Wahl #5:

Very Nice! Look everyone. This is Green Gold filled as opposed to the more commonly see Yellow Gold Filled. I can assure you even though I did not take this picture that this picture is not green shifted. hat is the right Green Gold color. AND in the harder to find #5 size in the Ripple pattern. Your pen is actually #659AG and was made in 1922 (that was the only year that pattern was made in #5 size according to the records I have. Nice Green Gold section too! Very Nice indeed. No wonder you are not sad about not trading it.

Here's a tip on early Wahl pen numbering: 659AG= 6 (#6 Pen Size cap and barrel) - don't get confused...at the time this pen was made the caps and barrels were numbered to designate length and girth separately from the nib size) Second Digit "5" designates nib size, and "9" designates the Ripple Pattern, "A" = Gold Filled and "G" is Green. Strangely Solid Gold Bens were designated with the letter B.

Anyway that's enough minutia for now.

Antonios, thank you very much for posting the photo of your lovely Wahl fountain pen wub.gif
I have one in green gold as well with a #5 nib but mine has the Greek Key pattern smile.gif

Syd, thank you very much for the information on early Wahl pen numbering--I had never read that anywhere else before! thumbup.gif

Hello antoniosz,

what was it you wanted to trade the pen with? Just asking because I would not mind adding one such Wahl to my collection...

Thanks for posting the pictures, Zed

Antoniosz, I have the #3 version of your #5. It has a superbly flexy nib. Now if I can just replace its sac properly... smile.gif

I was looking for an old model W. Germany M800 with 14K nib.

Syd,

Were all of the gf pens made in both yellow gold and green gold filled? Were there rose gold versions?

Since I collect Bantams, I have several of the smallest of the metal pens (with the size 0 nib.) I have at least one pattern in both yellow and green gf.

Regards, greg

Hm, pity I wanted to trade mine several month ago here on FPN. But as there was no interest I sent it to John Mottishaw for Spencerian customization to see if he can make me like the pen for I find it a bit too heavy... Perhaps it will again offer it here for sale or trade (though I will probably want to exchange it for OS Carmine Red Balance then).

Let me know how does the extra flex M800 feels like when you get it...

Yes, I will. I might even write a full review so that potentially interested people in this kind of customization know how the nib compares to vintage flexible nibs.
Only I am going to get the pen back in some three months if John's turnaround time is still circa six month. So, stay tuned smile.gif
