Lamy - LAMY nexx blue - Fountain pens
The new LAMY nexx fountain pen is made of high-quality aluminium. The barrel is extremely sturdy and its form gradually passes from a round to triangular shape. With its polished stainless steel nib and soft, non-slip grip, the LAMY nexx makes writing easy and fun.

Lamy - Product designers
The question of whether product designs should be created in a dedicated department, or external designers should provide them as a creative service, has never been an issue for Lamy.

Sorry, didn't mean to do that. ;-)

FYI, the nexx is a replacement for the Smile (it shares the same tooling so is therefore dimensionally identical). The Smile was never a big seller compared to the similarly-priced Safari.

Pic from lamy.de:

The "new" Al-Star colours are additions to the range. I use the quote marks as the Ocean Blue has been available in some markets for several months and the Raspberry was launched in Europe in the Spring.

I like the Al-stars so much more than the safaris for some reason. The safaris just have sort of a cheap feel to me, i dunno.

Anybody notice the brown Studio with the 14k nib?

Thanks for sharing.

IMHO, the nexx, as already mentioned, is a variation of the smile, which I once tried and found more ergonomic than the Safari/Al-Star, because the diameter at the section is larger and the nexx's section is covered by soft rubber. The pen is shorter than the Safari, and feels & looks cheap with its soft plastic cap. It is meant to be a school pen, nothing more.

lticaptd.gif I now use 2 LAMY's and find them both a joy to use. I have had a Lamy Al-Star in aluminum since 1999/2000 and it always starts even after prolonged "rests". Last Christmas, my son gifted me with a red Lamy Safari and is also a great piece of writing equipment. If you want writing performance, there is no need to pay 100's and 1000's of $$. rolleyes.gif For everyday writing, I can't find anything better for the price and I like the red shiny look and feel of the Safari. I have several other FP's but they are empty most of the time except on special occasions when I feel that only an expensive pen should be used on expensive paper.

Anyone know if the nexx uses regular Safari (Z50 IIRC) nibs? I really like the lamy calligraphy nibs, but I don't want to carry around such a big pen- if anything, I'd prefer it in a Kaweco Sport-sized short/long pen. This looks closer, and would be more easily modified to be such than the Safari, IMHO.
