Full Version: PIC: Vintage (ish) pen eyecandy. Most lovely Targas out there?

I really don't intend to become a collector of Targa, though I find the pen to be quite solid and appealing.

Could not turn down a bunch of Laque Moire pens of this sort, after Zorn showed me one he'd found. Think i'm keeping the set below. Certain though that the pics don't look as nice as the pen (indeed, turned out bit grainy). Produced in only three colors- as shown- the blue is the most tough to find.

So, here be some eyecandy

I think there is one in a different shade of green which was made as a special edition for the British warehouse "Harrods".

There is,and according to Andy Lambrou,it was made in a LE of 60 pens. The green shade is slightly different and the
capband is slightly larger.

David,
Lambrou's "Fountain Pens of the World" shows your three pens on page 129 and the Harrod's LE version on page 127. You can see from the photos that the Harrod's version is a darker green and has a wider cap band. In the text Andy alludes to the difficulty of applying the finish on the Harrod's version but doesn't elaborate. Don't know where I heard more detail, but I did hear that Sheaffer made a much larger number, something like 200-250, and had to destroy all but 60 because the finish wasn't right.

It is nice to see David Isaacson so often in the Sheaffers forum. Maybe the site will soon be called "Sheaffermania?"

Oh, Sheaffer and I go right back to the beginning of my immersion in pen collecting. Far better pens than some same-era makes which today cost well more. I just usually don't do much with Sheaffer after early 1960's.

David

I did view the pen before it went to auction, but the seller wouldn't sell direct to me and I missed out in the auction.
I know it came out of Sheaffer UK and was told it was a prototype.
I have seen a couple of Targas sell with bands on .I did talk to a Ex-Sheaffer employee about them and he was amazed to see them selling on ebay.He remembers putting the bands on the pens to see what they looked like, but they never went into production.
I think there was a Lady Sheaffer with bands , that they were modelled on.
