I know I've seen a couple of reviews on grays, silvers...the discontinued Sheaffer looked good. I don't have any to compare with so I defer to the FPNers expertise. Any recommendations out there for a nice mid-range, antiquey looking gray? I've got a Blackbird flying in that needs some sweet ink....my Tahitian Pearl or maybe a Swisher Maroon will do if all else fails. Thanks in advance

I love Omas Grey. It's quite light in colour (in my Sailor M-F nib, which is pretty fine by European standards, it can even look a little like pencil), flows well, and lends itself to some beautiful shading.

I'll second the Omas Grey. It is light, but with my cursive italic nib, it shows amazing shading. It's more silvery than the Sheaffer Gray, or the Private Reserve Gray Flannel (which, of all of them, looks most like a washed-out black, rather than a proper grey, to me), with, if anything, a hint of blue, whereas the Sheaffer to me has a hint of brown to its coloration.

I like Sailor gray. Nice shading. It doesn't seem to be as "thick" and lubricating as other Sailor inks though.

Like Matt, I'll vote for Sailor Grey. A very pleasant grey, and though it doesn't seem to lubricate as well as other Sailor inks (which are all fantastic, BTW), it's still a very nice ink. Take care,

I love the Omas gray, too. I have it in a high-tech gray Omas 360, and I keep meaning to try other colors in it, but I just keep using the gray. Now I'm starting to put the gray ink in other pens, too...

Check out Levenger Smokey. It's my son's favorite color, diffent enough not to be black but conservative enough not to irritate his teachers (he is a HS Sophomore).
I like it, too, and use it at work.

Thanks a bunch, folks. I've jotted them all down and will go hunting for some color charts

I would seriously consider J. Herbin Gris Nuage. I am a Herbin devotee anyway, but this gray is just so lovely! It sometimes reminds me of pencil writing:)

Thank you so much, Neil. I thought I had bookmarked this ink from a previous post and found I hadn't. I was just going to ask about it and, voila! (insert accents where they apply), I saw your message - thanks!!

I tested my Sailor Grey today and it reminded me of pencil color.

I have PR Grey Flannel and would recommend if you want a more Silver colour (I'd also check out Bryan's review).
Personally, I like a more blacky/grey and therefore am looking to purchase Diamine Grey.
