I have jumped pretty big on the bandwagon of fans for Sheaffers as I think they make a beautiful product. I really love all fountain pens but try to collect what I like rather than just one brand.

A couple of questions from a new collector....

1. What is the best fountain pen book or resource for information I should try to obtain?

2. I am a big fan of the tuckaway and snorkel models. How many variations are there? Is there a list?

3. Does anyone have pictures they might like to share of these 2 models?

Thanks,

Todd

Um... I took a few photos of my pair of Tuckies and posted them in the Photography forum.

This link is the nibs that started the thread.

And this link shows the Tuckies with a coupla other Sheaffers and then themselves together.

I love those shots. Thanks for sharing. You have a great eye and the lighting is dead on.

Any other Tucks?? or pics to share?

Tuckaway

Tuckaways, Snorkels, and Touchdowns are great pens.

Tuckaways are some of my very favorite pens. At one point, I didn't collect any Sheaffers. Once I discovered Tuckaways, it was a runaway train...

This scan is not great, but I really like the clipless models:

Two more not great pics, but they do show most of my tuckaways (including many of the variations in color and trim.)

Wow Greg... That is an incredible collection. I appreciate all the pics and agree the clipless are some of my favorites.
Are there any books detailing the different Sheaffer models?

Thanks,

Todd

There is no one book that goes into a tremendous amount of detail on Tuckaways.
However, Richard Binder has a good reference section on them: Tuckaway Profile
Some of the recent Pennant magazines have articles about the Sheaffer pens of the 1940's. Good info on Tuckaways (and other contemporary Sheaffers) in those.

Here be a wee killer Tucky set. Post WWII fat-boy era. Carmine celluloid with matching gripping section. Conical Nib. Plunger Filler.

And, here is a spread of 1940s "Triumph era" pens, including another killer (this one WWII era) clipless silver pearl Tucky "Cousin It" pen.

David, your photographs are breathtakingly incredible, as usual.

Wow... my eyes. My bank account. Why, David, why? biggrin.gif

.... But wait. I don't see any green ones. So my Tucky isn't totally lame by comparison... although it's a lot more banged up. But if you want variety, voila:

For some idea of size:

And a kinda overexposed shot showing the nib and gripping section:

And the cap. This is a wire-banded cap: not so nice.

And to fill it out, a Crest pen and pencil set:

I just won this set on eBay - Sheaffer Tuckaway pen and pencil set with box
Item number: 170258249429. I have not received it yet and am new to pricing and was wondering how I did?
It looks to be nice from the pics and the seller stated "it is as close to a 10 as a 40 year old pen can get" which
did not really answer my question but I am hopeful.

Your thoughts....

Dave the pics are breathtaking thanks for sharing with a newbie!

Teebo,

Have you received the set, and what condition was it in? Did the condition match the fact that the sticker or chalkmark was still on the barrel? The case certainly looked good.

Do let us know.

I have not received it yet. I am unsure if the seller decided to keep it as money was sent but item was never received. It must be my luck as soon as I want something really bad I can not seem to find any.

Just got this one in and it is my new favorite. I already want 10 more in different colors.
