I have recently purchased a parker 45 and am finding that it is a little bit scratchy. It was made in the 1970's and has a medium 14ct gold nib. I am using parker quink ink.

If the tines are aligned properly, then you might need to smooth the nib on a sheet of grit paper, at least 2000 and better 8,000 or 10,000. Mircomesh is also very good. but remember you cannot put the nib material back on, so take it easy and slowly. You can draw figure 8's with ink in it until it is smooth(er).

Yes, check the tines with a loupe. If mis-alligned, easy to fix. Once you get it set up right, the P45 is a wonderful pen!!!
