A few years ago I acquired a 1st generation standard Vacumatic with a deep burgundy body and cap and great flex nib; however, both the top and bottom jewels are faded. You can definitely tell that they were burgundy in color when they started out, and there is no evidence to indicate that they are replacements.

I have a number of Vacs and have not seen this problem before. Any thought as to why the jewels have faded? More importantly, any thoughts as to how one might try to bring back the original color (short of finding replacements)? Thanks for your input.
