Full Version: What's your favourite turquoise ink?

I have absolutely fallen in love with Lamy's turquoise ink which comes in a very fancy bottle with blotting paper. I have used it in Lamy vistas and a Waterman with excellent results. I was hoping there will be a Noodler's waterproof ink in turquoise, but sadly there isn't.

Are there other turquoise inks that anyone can recommend me to try?

Well, I have used Sheaffer Skrip Turquoise which runs a little towards the black and green side of turquoise for my taste. And I think J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche is close as well - too green, I suppose, to be called a true turquoise but a very pleasing colour to my eye. J. Herbin Bleu Azur is a true blue ink (nearly baby blue) that might be considered a turquoise which is totally devoid of green but it is just too faint and watery for me.

Watermans South Seas Blue and Noodlers Navajo Turquoise are the best I have seen... absolutely no green background in them....

Choosing a turquoise ink is as subjective as choosing a brown ink, so you're going to get lots of suggestions smile.gif . I've never heard any negative opinions of Lamy Turquoise. The new Sheaffer Skrip Turquoise is my only turquoise, but I'm not as emotionally attached to it as to some of the other inks on my shelf. It's for one-sided writing on bad paper (as most fountain pen inks are).

Noodler's Britannia's Blue Waves and Dostoevsky are waterproof and in the tropical-sea-peacock-turquoise range; check the reviews for them in the Index of Ink Reviews and comments about them in Inky Thoughts for behavior in pens and on paper. Britannia's Blue Waves should be available through retailers in the UK. Dostoevsky is available through Pendemonium in the USA and perhaps through others in other countries.

Among the Pilot brand's Iroshizuku line of inks, which are more water-resistant than most non-iron-galls and non-Noodler's-cellulose-reactives, Ku-jaku "Peacock" fits its name. I think you'd still have to order it from Japan.

recently discovered Montblanc turquoise, which has a clarity and brightness but still some subtlety. I'm not crazy about turquoise inks generally but this one has a hard to define rightness. sadly, out of production I believe

I have Dostoevsky and it's a good ink that I use on occasion, but I would never consider it turquoise - it's much, much too green. The scan at Pendemonium is a bit deceptive. I have a scan here at FPN at Inky thoughts or something. It's nice, just not turquoise.

There are lots of "favorite turquoise" threads here worth looking at, but it's a fun subject because my opinions changes every time it comes up. My main turquoise for a while was Lamy, then I tried out a bunch of more exotic turquoises, and now, surprise! Lamy turns out to be my favorite. Today, anyway smile.gif

Other turqs I like:

Pelikan
Noodler's Navajo Turquoise
PR Naples Blue
Waterman South Sea Blue
Sheaffer (Skrip) Turquoise

Actually the only one I'm indifferent to is Waterman SSB. For some reason it looks very cold and icy to me. More like North Sea Blue smile.gif
Defacto
My favourite Turquoise is Visconti's.

I have a sample of Diamine's but I haven't tried that one yet.

Imzadi
Noodler's Navaho
GNL
I have Noodler's Navajo Turquoise and Waterman South Seas Blue. They've VERY similar, but of the two, the SSB is my favorite - it's a gorgeously rich color with spectacular shading.

My favorite ink, however, is PR Naples Blue which is a deeper, darker Turquoise, possibly sober enough for business, as long as the pen its in writes toward the dark end of an ink's spectrum.

When I saw the title of this thread, I came to extoll the Lamy turquoise I just bought -- too bad you beat me to it!

Montblanc turquoise.

May not be out of production. The listings on the refill site keep changing. Yesterday their regular blue wasn't listed, and there's no way that's out of production. A while back sepia was gone, and now it's back again. Maybe they take it off the site when they're out of stock.

Another vote for PR Naples Blue!

Im currently using South Seas Blue, with just a little bit of Diamine Royal Blue added to it. Looks similar to Naples blue.
Sailor Kenshin
I have the Lamy Turq, Noodler's Navaho Turq, and J Herbin Bleu Prevenche---and a couple of Diamine samples I have yet to try, and a Levenger's turq-looking cart (Blue Bahamas??) ready to be installed as soon as my Stypen writes out what it's using now.

I enjoy using all those three I mentioned, but the Nav seems almost evergreen, especially in certain pens. Although I like the color, but it's got so much blue-black undertone and seems so opaque that it doesn't measure up to what I think of as true turquoise.
Nigey
I also like the Lamy turq. and have found the Diamine turquoise to be quite similar.
FrankB
I have to give my vote to MB turquoise. I generally do not like blue inks, but this one has a lovely true turquoise color that almost seems internally illuminated. I have been using it for a number of years.

stephenchin - If this ink is out of production, I have not heard about it yet. It has been a mainstay of the MB ink line for years and I would hope MB would not kill an all time favorite ink.

Lamy turquoise

LOL, I'm sorry but I have to laugh. You remind me of my wife. You have an ink you have "absolutely fallen in love with" you have used it in your pens "with excellent results" yet you look for something else (better)?.... hmm1.gif

In answer to your first question though.. Noodler's Navajo Turquoise is an awesome ink.. I just bought a bottle. It's a bit darker than DI Turquoise, but not by much.

Good luck in your search...... LOL

Actually, there is: Noodler's Aquamarine contract ink, which is exclusive to Swisher Pens. It's a very nice color, in my opinion, on the blue side of turquoise--similar to Navajo Turquoise but more pastel. It's also one of the most impervious of Noodler's bulletproof/eternal inks. Here is a link:

Jersey Diabolo
One more vote for Waterman South Seas Blue

and, just to further confuse you, my all-time fav:

Rohrer & Klingner Blu Mare [deep, beautiful color - I like a nice green-ish turquoise]

Thanks for all your suggestions. I think I will try the Waterman SSB next followed by Noodler's Navajo !
