Hi All,
A while back, I put up a quiz about the colorful coined names given by pen companies, in decades past, to the "proprietary" features of their instruments. Folks seemed to enjoy it, so I'm trying the same thing again...with a twist.
This time, I'm putting up a series of ten fountain pen advertising slogans/headlines, with the company name blanked out in each case. To play, simply supply the missing manufacturer. Some of these are easy, some less so. I've tried to make sure that there was something in each slogan that would help to identify the company.
A couple of preliminary points:
I've supplied the year (or decade) during which each slogan was used. In some cases, that information may provide a useful clue.
Do not rely on pronouns for clues. Even if the original pronoun was "an" (implying a company name starting with a vowel), I've changed it to "a".
Question #10 includes two blanks: one refers to a model, and the other to a company. This is actually a clue! Just think about pens that have been referred to in that manner: "the [model] by [company]," as opposed to "the [company] [model]."
There's a bonus eleventh question. This one is different: because it doesn't include the company name, nothing needed to be blanked out. But hopefully there's still enough there to suggest the pen manufacturer in question.
I regret to say that there's no prize...other than the enduring esteem of one's FPN colleagues.
Hope you enjoy it!
Cheers,
Jon
