Full Version: OMAS Black
The Fountain Pen Network > General Pen Topics > Inky Thoughts

I recently purchased a Namiki Falcon with a F nib which I really, really, like (I migrated from using Rotring Technical pens 0.25). I suspect the pen shop, where I purchased the pen, sold me their most expensive black ink: OMAS. This being my very first nice fountain pen and possessing unimaginable ignorance on all this stuff, my technical observation is that "hey, this is a nice opaque black" especially for the very fine line widths from the Falcon.

So, I'm wondering, does OMAS make their own ink or relabel them from other manufacturers? If so, who? But, more importantly, in relation to other blacks recommended in these threads, are there other blacks that would show any measurable difference in deeper black appearance in fine line widths? Thoughts?

I seem to like Aurora Black & Pelikan Brilliant Black the best.
You may not see much difference in a fine nib.

Omas' ink is unique to that brand, and is well regarded. I don't know who owns the factory wink.gif .

Yes, fine nibs (especially East Asian fine nibs, which are one step finer than non-East-Asian fine nibs) make the color differences between black inks very difficult to tell. That means you can spend less money and get the same color result out of that pen tongue.gif .

Of course, if you want waterproofness, washability, freezing resistance, alkalinity, acidity or some other characteristic, then the width of the nib doesn't matter at all.

Omas prices are not bad when you're thinking it's 80mL big compared to other normal bottles that are about 50ml, but I know where you're going at. I don't know why I decided to get a Omas Green when it was so expensive...oh yes, the bottle was nice

Wonderful! I thought it was a nice ink!

Resurrecting the thread here with a question...

Has anyone had Omas black ink long enough to call it vintage? If so, any thoughts as to how it holds up over time?

I just bought a bottle at my local flea market/antique shop for $4.50 and I'm interested in any experience y'all have with it.
