Hello all!

I hope everyone is well.... Things all all rainy and cooling down in London...

I had a question to ask anyone that knows or has any info for me... I am an avid vintage CS collector and am constantly intregued by new and exciting pens.

I got home from work yesterday and was pleasntly surprised by a CS pen that I bought the otherday was delivered and it is a model that I can find no reference to anywhere at all!!

It is clearly a Conway Stewart Fountain pen as it is Black Chased and exatly like a Universal 479 pen that I have except that the inscription reads.

THE RED DWARF PEN
J. KEARNEY & CO
LIVERPOOL
NO 479

I was wodering if anyone had any info on this pen? is it a common vintage but with no info anywhere? or would be be a rarer model? I know that CS made pens for other associates but not sure about this one?

Any info would be greatly appreciated? I will try and photo the pen and add it later...

Take care

Dave

Five ways to tell if it's a true Red Dwarf pen:

If it smells like vindaloo.
When you open it up, are there scutters inside?
Is the cap made from Holly?
If the pen evolved from the ship's cat, Frankenstein.
If there's a capital 'H' engraved on the nib... it's a hologram.

Awesome TINman!

I want to lie ship wrecked and comatose...

P.S. Sorry I am of no help to you Dave.

I'd buy a Red Dwarf pen; it would refuse to work, but it would suck up an awful lot of ink.

Either that, or it would be a hands' free pen - "Well, this is better than life sir..."

[and the Sci Fi geeks come crawling out of the woodwork]

For a second there I had the feeling I wanted to know what you guys were talking about. But, luckily, I whacked my head with a hammer and that feeling went away. headsmack.gif

I suppose we could go for a record for number of Red Dwarf related posts that people can get into a fountain pen topic wink.gif
I did a quick look on Historical Directories to see if I could find J. Kearney and Co in a L'pool trade directory, but all I've managed to pull up are Mcr listings.

Sadly I am too busy scrubbing gussets to answer your question

The 479 was a common model that came in various colors. It wasn't uncommon for CS to make special pens for various
kinds of companies. They also used other models in the same way for the same reason.
