Part of my work involves old maps recorded in various county and state offices. A lot of what I see from the 1960s and 1970s has signatures written with fairly bold pens. It almost looks like a felt tip pen or a bold FP. Modern documents of course are graced with the whispy lines of Bic's finest ballpoints.

What did people use during that period and others? How has the signing pen evolved through the years for more or less regular officials like county planners and the like?
