Full Version: Help! Question on nib size imprint

I just got a new old stock Pelikan 140 with black barrel. It comes with the characteristical double-breather-hole nib of 140s, with the usual PElikan logo and 14C-585 imprint like this one here: -

However, I can't quite make out the nib size imprint. The imprint is rather shallow, right below the logo imprint, with THREE but not two letters. I'm 100% sure it's not OBB tho - the letters doesn't look like it and the line produced is somewhere between a modern Pelikan M and F. The first letter looks most likely to be a D, with those two that follows both look like an E or a F.

Anyone has any idea on what nib size is this?? Need to know ASAP to kill off the curiousity!!

Thanks a zillion!!

This might be DEF. D is for "Durchschreibefeder", meaning it is a very stiff nib meant to be used for carbon copies. Those D-nibs come with two breather wholes. EF meaning extra fine. This is pretty much what the nib looks like, too.

Beeing stiff does not neccessarily mean that the nib is unpleasent. I have a DM nib with a 400NN and I like this nib a lot because it is buttersmooth and is delivering a nice wet line. Although I really like my semiflex nibs this pen is filled with some red ink and is used for editing all the time.

thx so much piembi.

yes it is a very, very stiff nib indeed, but it makes a very good work pen when speed is more important than flex and style~ thumbup.gif very smooth nib too!
