What do you think about the new George Bernard Shaw writers edition?
I have been to a few boutiques in Chicago and they are all sold out does anyone else know of a boutique that still has them available?

Looks very nice. The
Shaw is a large and heavy pen which is well made. BUT I prefare solid metal or plastic (resin, celluloid, hardrubber,...) pens over laquered pens (with very few exceptions). Otherwise this really would be a pen I'd consider to buy.
Cheers

I bought the Shaw as my first writers edition.
Though the Shaw is my first writers edition, I've had the opportunity to see and handle many of the others.
With that said, I honestly think that it's among the nicest writers editions Montblanc has produced.

A limited edition pen that becomes sold out that fast! That has to say something about it.
By the way, have the leather accessories been released yet in the North American boutiques yet?

I'm sorry, my question wasn't clear. I meant the Writers Edition leather accessories. I think there are 3 limited edition leather accessories that are to be released with this year's Writers Edition pen.

I saw the Shaw for the first time today at my local store. Yikes, that is one handsome pen. The photos just don't do it justice. I was very tempted. Still am.

What's up with the MB website? They seem to be slow on updating with their new products. I noticed this with the black and white stripe meisterstuck when it came out. I saw one in a boutique and it was about 6 months later before you could find it on their site.

I spoke with a pen store owner on Tuesday who informed me that MB is (as many on the network have already deduced) moving away from pens. Of the 80 print ad campaigns designed for 2009 not one features pens. This translates into low priority for all pen product (including WEs) as witnessed by the degree to which their website updates trail releases.

Just "to add insult to injury", I am informed that MB is taking an 8% price increase effective October 1st on ALL pens, including the new Shaw.

They are indeed becoming slow in updating their website. In the previous years, up until last year, the pictures of the Patron of Arts, Writers Editions, Donation Pens, as well as the Special Theme Editions, were up on their site at least a month before their release in Germany. This year, the pictures of the Francois I pen were up 2-3 months after its release. Now, I'm still waiting to see the Shaw's on their website.

we have no received one single word to when we should get the shaw leather pieces in. I've worked for montblanc for 3 years and so far the shaw has been the fastest writers edition to sell.

I hope MB is not dropping pens altogether. Many of their designs are absolutely gorgeous and, like others here, I've developed an interest bordering on an addiction.
If they are getting out, I hope Pelikan can snap up the pen part of MB's business. Not only does Pelikan do good work with pens but, given the fact that some see a similarity between the MB logo and a bird splat, merging the Pelikan and MB logos could work out quite well.

I handled a Shaw set today. I picked up the fountain pen first and very much liked the weight and colors. It was well-balanced unposted. I posted the cap for a short period, and decided it was also well-balanced when posted (for me), but the cap then made the overall pen very heavy. Almost as heavy as the Verne--the WE to which I compared the Shaw on the countertop.
I was not particularly impressed with the BP or MP. Both seemed very unbalanced and the "cap" of both the BP and MP made them feel very top-heavy.
If I can sell off some of my extra 146s, and maybe a 149, I'll buy the WE Shaw.

I saw the Shaw today it is very interesting pen, I don't know if I particularly like it but the design sure falls into better WE pens for these past few years. Balance is nice. It is on my hit list to buy.

In this case, the heavy cap of the BP makes the weight of the pen balance at the top/rear. The light portion of the pen is at the writing point, and the heavy portion is at the very back. I wrote with the BP for several minutes and found it to be uncomfortable as the pen felt like it was going to fall out of my hands at any time.
Best regards, Eric
