Just picked up about a week ago my first 9314F (Fine Relief Stub). It's a bit on the scratchy side. Do I dare make a few swirls on some micromesh or is it supposed to be a bit on the scratchy side.

Thanks!

Mine is the same, pretty scratch and not very pleasant to write with. I was thinking the same thing and try some smoothing, but like you I'm a bit hesitant.

Do you want to Ro Sham Bo to see who goes first??

Maybe Brian, or Gerry can chime in with their thoughts.

Ok. So I caved and made a few passes on my strip of micromesh. A little bit better, but I will have to wait until I get home to swirl some more. That way I can inspect the "damage" with a loupe.

The x314F nibs can be scratchy if you do not hold them properly. The M and B versions are easier to use because it is easier to see the tip. Perhaps you've already examined different writing angles, but it is one possible solution.

After a very minor tine adjustment (see it pays to wait and examine through a loupe) the nib writes much better. I am still working on my angle.
Gerry
They will respond well to tuning with Micromesh. Just remember to go slow, inspect often and try them out frequently with ink on paper.

Gerry
