I just looked at the cap of my 1993 Pelikan M200, and was shocked to realize that it's thoroughly cracked: two cracks, each about a quarter-inch away from the clip, and extending down about three-quarters of an inch, reaching towards each other slowly and inexorably on the far side of the cap.

I suspect that it's doomed.

In the interim, I'm using the cap for my new M200 (since that pen is clean and waiting to be reinked), but I would rather have the old-style cap on the old pen. Is there any hope for it? Should I start asking around for old-style caps to buy? Is Pelikan likely to even have this type of cap any more?

Talk to Kendra at Chartpak 413.584.5446 she is in after 1PM every day... she might be able to help you out...

She is fantastic and the service they give can't be beat....
I just sent one of my old style 200 Pels to them for a nib exchange... she said to send the whole pen so she could give it a good cleaning and overhaul and test the nib on my pen... BTW, no charge for any of this....

I called Kendra, and left a message, then emailed her -- and got a response scant hours later. So on Monday I'm going to take a deep breath and send my baby out via UPS. She says they might have an old style replacement cap, if they can't fix it. I shall hope for the best.

I have one, in case Chartpack doesn't!
Good luck!

I am almost certain that the main part of the cap is the same for both versions. The differences are in the inner cap (raised black end with logo on the later pens, plain and flat on the earlier models) and clip retention (flared ring on the later pens, domed with logo on the early ones). If this is the case then a new cap assembly could be stripped and the relevant parts transferred from the old cap onto the new one.

Well, my Pelikan 200 came back today, with a new-style cap. I'm not surprised, but am faintly disappointed. Be that as it may, I shall take my baby home and switch her back to one of the Binderized nibs, and reload her.

I believe the only difference between the OS and NS caps is the top finial... and that unscrews.... if you still have the old cap, unscrew the top and you should be able to just replace the NS finial cap.

Now, of course, there is the distinct possibility that I have absolutely no idea of what I am talking about.. sad.gif  wallbash.gif
