Full Version: The 'other' Lamy Nibs (rounded, oblique)

Has any used these nibs, speaking particularly of the Rounded Medium?

* Rounded Nib(medium)
* oblique medium
* oblique broad
* oblique extra broad

Do the oblique nibs write well for everyday, smooth-wet cursive?

I've tried both the Fine and Medium nibs via nib exchange on my Lamy 2000 and was very embittered by both. These nibs seem to be picky about the writing angle, which is unlike my other pens I've tried. In theory, I thought the rounded Medium would be more like them.

Thanks for your time.
I greatly value your input.

Hi, Michael. I can't speak for any of the oblique nibs, but I was not impressed with the M (ballpoint) rounded nib on my Al-Star at all. The normal side writes well enough, I suppose, but the other, finer side writes just like the reverse side of any other regular nib would, which is to say very scratchily and with very poor flow. Another note on Lamy nibs: the M nib on my 2K handled every kind of ink I threw at it but was way too broad for a M. OTOH, the F nib I switched to has been a lot more finnicky and seems to write well only with lubricating inks like Sailor and Noodler's, so I can relate to frustration with Lamy 2K nibs. HTH and take care,
David

Thanks David.

You feedback is well received and I'm glad to hear its not just me having problems with Lamy nibs.

Being stuck with an expensive pen that is not a joy to write with, I may try the oblique nibs and then maybe sell it.

Cheers!

It´s quite amazing the erratic way FPs seem to behave! blink.gif I´ve got 3 AlStars and several Safaris, with round nibs ranging from XF to B and all of them have worked perfectly: very smooth writing and very consistent ink flow. The italic in the Lamy Joy is also very good. Don´t know about the 2000.
I´ve never had any problem with these. On the other hand, I´ve had problems with almost all the other new pens I´ve bought (Sheaffer, Parker & Waterman); with the possible exception of the Pelikans and MB.

Michael,

I have used a Lamy Safari (M nib) for almost 12 years with zero problems. Flows as wet as it did the day I bought it. Sorry to hear you are having problems.

I'm thinking of trying my first stub with a Lamy (Joy or Safari). I'll let you know.

Thanks Roy. I look forward to hearing from you.
