Hi all,

here are some pics of my Parker English Duofold. What do people think of them and is there anything that people would advise to improve?

Any advice much appreciated.

Matt.

Very very nice pics.

Thank you. I'm not sure if the lighting is consistent enough though. And also the background was just a cushion that I had lying around! I'll keep working on it.

Matt.

I can't give advice but I like the colour and exposure a lot. It is so easy for the light to burn out on metal but you've avoided that really well.

Actually, now you mention colour the pen in actuality is a bit more vivid than it appears in the photographs. I may have a slight rethink and take a few more shots.

often nice writers with funky points. I sell 'em and write with 'em. Several colors and quite the variety of sizes out there.

Nowadays, it's so easy to tweak photographs using PhotoShop to get the image you like. For PC users, Adobe LightRoom is handy for post-shoot processing (I use Aperture on my Mac). The downside for these applications is that they are quite expensive. Also, the learning curve may be more than some would have bargained for but with patience and judicious use, you can display photos as good as those of the pros'. Thankfully, both Adobe and Apple have video tutorials for their apps, and offer time-limited (usually 30 days) demos of these applications.

Actually, your photos look good already!

FWIW, I think I would add a crinkly tinfoil on cardboard reflector from the camera left position for a little bit of fill.

Like the background.

It has somewhat of a flexy nib although I don't think I would describe it as full flex. It writes from a F-M line right up to BBB I would say. I'm not really experienced with flex though and so am out of my league a bit. Certainly with making the most of it!

I was actually considering putting it up for sale but am slightly reluctant to do so on FPN as I don't really have any reference with regards to price. I would certainly rather sell it on FPN than flea-bay though; any advice?

I do use Photoshop CS3 but didn't in this instance. I was juts being lazy really. I agree that it could certainly be touched up a fair bit to create better balance and bring out more colour.

Like the background.

The gear used was a Canon 30d, tripod mounted, with a Canon 24-105mm L lens with up to 65mm of extension tubes. Lighting was daylight from front-right through a window coupled with a body mounted Canon 580EX bounced off the ceiling.

I agree that it would benefit from more fill from the left. Ideally I would have another flash and mount them both off-camera. I'll have a look at bouncing some light in the future and see what happens.

Thanks to everyone for input.

Very nice. I love the burgundy color with the gold appointments. Also, the background is very complimentary. Who cares if it's just a sofa cushion. wink.gif

they are very well made pens and great writers.

Hi,

Nice photos and these are very underrated pens (probably the ones that started me off on collecting), I have them in various colours/sizes.

very nice. I think the sofa cushion texture behind the smooth nib and pen body adds interest and contrast. well done.
