On Ujuku's website, he says that Sailor is willing to make custom colors of Sailor pens as long as the order is $5000.00. If we order Professional Gears at $215 each, then we would only need about 24 people to get it done. Do you think it's do-able on this board?

As Fateh says, we need to agree on a colour/shade etc - and I'm sure the price is a minimum just for the cap and barrel. If you want different colour blind caps and bottoms, section, trim etc then the price is sure to rise!
Another consideration is to the shape/size of the pen - Pro Gear/Mini/Sapporo/1911 large/medium etc
AND, it is going to require a brave and tolerant soul to collect all the cash, ship the pens out once they are recieved and be the interface point with Yamada-san. This is a bit responsibility and I'm sure will come with some considerable headache!!!
Maybe a workable solution it to ask Yamada-san is he will be the shipper/coordinater then the price will be pen cost + shipping from Japan as I'm sure people all over the world will want one.
Whatever the outcome, you can count me in!

My only hesitation for getting a non 21k pen is that the cost is half and we'd need twice the number of people to meet the price requirement (unless people are willing to pay double the normal price for a Sapporo with a 14k nib)!
How about a 21kt Pro Gear Mini? That may solve both requirements?

I'm with you, Betty. The snow white colour in Sapporo or Pro Gear size with white metal trim, (possibly with black section but not black end caps, like the spring white model) is exactly what I'm after. Classic, elegant, and definitely unisex.

Hello,
this sounds interesting. Did somebody ask Sailors distributor in the US about this project? Perhaps they can help to communicate and clarify things with Sailor Japan. At the end it is promotion for their pens too and perhaps the price will be lower than importing pens from Japan. Even a (FPN+)Sailor club could be founded! With membership like the Bexley, Conway Stewart or Omas clubs.

Nelson

I suspect the Sailor distributor would be unable to do anything, based on the disconnection there seems to be between the home and U.S. offices of these Japanese manufacturers. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong, however.

People, this has been explained before - a custom pen project is not possible outside of Japan.
Please do not impose yourselves upon Japanese vendors about this subject, nor can the Sailor distributor help you - nobody outside of Japan can do anything to get any custom pens moving.
Please don't get your hopes up and pick colours, styles etc etc - it's all pointless, I'm afraid.

Ujuku posted a message on his website under his yellow Sailor LE pen that special order was possible. Not sure if he's willing to ship to US.

I would go with a color like that..........something similar to the purple King of Pen shown on Mottishaw's

Or even a purple demonstrator(i.e.,skeleton pen)..............
My choice(if it were/is possible)would be a PG or Sapporo.

My comment stands - you can't arrange this from the US - you have to go through someone in Japan. If the Ujuku Store is happy to be the middleman, then that is great.

I don't know that I can commit to buying another Sailor. I already have two Sapporo's, both tragically underused due to my penchant for inking 8 pens at a time. But I'll keep following this topic for sure. I'll probably cave after a week or two.

Purple skeleton/demonstrator would be really different from anything else I have.
White with rose gold would also be tempting. I imagine the rose gold trim would raise the price quite a bit though.

Nope, I didn't get any color swatches. Seems like they need a color picked out before they can do a proper price quote. Perhaps the prices differ depending on what color we choose (so does that mean we can choose any color???)
I'll try asking again for a color swatch chart (if they have one)

Great idea!
Depending on the price and in case it is a full size pen I'm intersted as well.
I'd love to see a bright green (maybe even metallic) colored pen with rose gold trim:
A slightly less
yellow green would look great with the rose gold trim as well:
Please keep us updated!

I'm sure you can choose any colour and they will try to match it to the best of their abilities.
Seems like a lot of people prefer white as a colour. Actually, it seems like the order amount is based on a cost. Hence we may be able to get 12 pens each of two colours made for the same money (Ujuku's run was around 10ish pens).
If so then we could get a white one with rose gold trim and a transparent lime green with silver trim... I'd be up for two!
I don't care what the colour is as long as it's NOT yellow gold trim

If we had the choice of

colour why would we get white? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Besides, I thought Sailor already made one of these in white (maybe only for the japanese market?) but...as usual...not sure about that last bit.

What kind of color would you have in mind?
In my opinion the color should be different from what has been available so far so the transparent lime green should be different from those two:
and
I had something in mind like this material (including the metallic effect) but in lime green:
Also I'd be up for something
crazy like the striped material used on the "Hanshin Tigers" LE (but than using some
real colors.

I really enjoy your blog with all those great pictures and pens! I always admire the ones which can concentrate on individual models that much. I keep on adding pens from so many different manufacturers and production years to my collection. But seeing a collection of one model in so many variations is great.
I really like the white one with rose gold trim and the Dandelion (especially because it comes with a special ink).

Would be OK for me for the large size model (are we talking about the large size model ???) - Euro vs. US $ conversion rate is making this affordable.
I'm really hoping for a rose gold trim!
Also we should consider having Sailor adding a custom mixed ink matching the pens color.
For a green pen I suggest looking at wikipedias
