Today, I was browsing through the pen section in Selfridges in London and came across some Waterman Serenites in pride of place in the corner display. The price for the proudly displayed one?!

I keep going over this in my head as to whether I was mistaken but I'm sure I read it right.

I know the elements collection go for €10k according to the website but what the hell did I see here?! I was so kinda stunned that I didn't really take it in!!

Any thoughts? Am I losing my mind?!

Is Selfridge's one of those Exalted Imperial Majestic Royal Potentate kinda stores (like our Nieman-Marcus, or Bergdorf's)?

It certainly does has that sort of image (without knowing your stores at all) but all the other pens were at a 'normal' UK price. For instance, Lamy 2k £103, Parket Sonnet Cisele, £125, 'Normal' Serenite ~£400 or so.

The thought came into my head that it could have been 360.00 but then a quick ponder made me realise that it was definitely listed as 36.000. Also, I did not recognise the pattern/art on it but it was red and looked similar to the fire (feu) Serenite belonging to the elements collection. Slightly baffled!

Selfridges isn't quite like that but I guess Bloomingdale's would be the closest thing to it.

I think I'm going to have to go back and see exactly what it was and ask some questions this time as well!!

I love Judith Leiber bags, but have not been able to get one. Once I set my mind for the hunt, though.....
I do have scads of Dooney/Bourke, and Coach bags. Never paid more than half price.

It's kinda funny; the same sweatshops that make those handbags make the takeoffs, too! I'll take the 17.95 Ganesha.
