Auction closed yesterday for this 1920s solid gold overlay. Any gold pen from the prewar era is extremely rare as many were melted down during the Depression and for the war effort. And, this is not your typical overlay as it appears to be done by an artist and it signed. It appears in incredible condtion with, what might be, the original nib. It is, of course, an eyedropper. Assuming you bid on the pen through a proxy, it went for about $2,000 and was won by a collector in Japan. You will not see this pen on eBay anytime soon. The second place bidder was a well-known Midwest American dealer. Pictures are from the auction.
