Journal 011 on its way back home to Jose.............

Aug 22 2006, 07:05 PM
It sounds like Jose would welcome someone else starting one of these, and I happen to have an unused Moleskine cahier handy. Anyone interested, chime in here (I'd say to PM me, but sometimes my PMs and emails from the board seem to go astray).
How many participants are you currently doing on any one notebook? I assume there is a limit so that one stands a chance of seeing it again within one's lifetime.
Any tips on starting a new one will be received with gratitude.

OK. Sounds like maybe a few of us should wade in & take some of the pressure off Jose.
If J could perhaps pen a "Ladybird Guide to Travelling Journals" we could all march in step & not mess up a good thing. No probs picking up the blank journals here.

I'm in one and would like to do another. Only problem is I really don't like the Moleskins.
Yes, heretical... I know. But I find them uncomfortably small and the lines very narrow and I would feel quite guilty double-spacing. On the other hand, most can't read my handwriting anyway!
Would anyone like to try a different sort of journal, lets say......
Starting with a full size sheet of writing, and sending it to the next person who also pens a full size sheet, attaches it to the first sheet and sends it on to the third person, etc.
Not as neat and cool as a little book, but think of the fun variety of paper!

Andy, I think that is a great idea (of course I have the same issue as you and have been writing in a double space format.....wasting paper and all!!)

Well, if we can find 5 or 6 hamfisted guys with poor handwriting and broad nibs we can have quite a "staple-page traveling" journal.
If 5 of you pm me with your address I'll start things off. If you don't send them to me we will have to consider telapathic journaling.
Here are the rules (subject to anyone deciding to do something different).
Someone sends you the envelope with the page(s) in it.
Enjoy reading it.
Write a page of your own.
Staple it to the other batch (after removing the old staple) trying to keep the pages in order.
Mail it to the next person on the list in a new envelope. (remember to use stamps)
Last person on the list mails it back to me.
Reminder. One sheet of paper. Front and back is up to you.
Wacha think?

Andy,
What about a blank journal? Something a little bigger, like the full-size Moleskines.
That way you know that everything will stay together. I have yet to research other journals since I am a Moleskine fan. I bet there are many FP-friendly journals out there.
What do you think?

I hereby claim the Idiot of the Month title.
I sent ANES 010 to Ryan IN KOREA - after he had informed me he was on the move AND gave addresses
He hopes to locate it but if this journal goes missing folk should know that THE FAULT IS MINE.
Apologies

I think five is enough for us to start, and we can always pick up a name or two down the line. I've PMed everyone asking for snail addresses.
Here are my thoughts. Wise ones who have traveled this journey before me, feel free to chime in.
- Include the snail addresses in the notebook itself so they are easy to find. Agree?
- Arrange the sequence of participants to minimize time in the mail, trying not to send the notebook across the U.S. multiple times, for example. We do have that great jump over the pond, to add a little zest to these things.
- It would be a nice gesture for each US participant to throw an extra couple of stamps in the envelope, allowing said stamps to collect so that the person who sends it overseas can get some assistance. (Does that make sense?) 2 oz. from the U.S. to Ireland is, I think, 1.70, and 3 oz. if 2.55.
- My postal scale is regrettably optimistic--can someone tell me what a Moleskine cahier weighs, in a manila envelope?
What am I forgetting?
