betty's thread re: pictures of ink inspired me to take some snaps of my desk. sorry, no shots of my ink, as they're strewn all about the house. thought it'd be an interesting look into the lives of fpn'ers... smile.gif

Topics like this are always fun. But you asked for it. I just grabbed the camera, stepped back and took the picture, mess and clutter and everything. The fountain pens are even in there somewhere.

We had this type of thread on another forum on which I participate. Each new post contained a picture of that persons desk and computer, with the previous post of the thread showing on their monitor. That way you end up with a desktop within a desktop within a desktop etc etc. Good fun - perhaps we should try it here?

And no, you're not seeing my desk! Not until I've tidied it anyway cool.gif!

Okay. Just grabbed the camera and took the picture. Didn't clean up or anything. Very cramped, very humble, but note the paper napkins with PR American Blue blots and the stains on the rather nice inclined aluminum writing platform. I think I'm kinda odd for not liking things on my wall -- no pictures etc. It gets in the way of my thinking...

Denis,

I don't think your test can be called messy by any means. In fact, it looks so executive like smile.gif

I love these kind of posts smile.gif I need to take a picture of mines too.

Wait till you see mine! unsure.gif I'll try and get a pic taken as soon as I can.

I got messy right here! I took this today when my Mom asked me, "So what are you doing today?"

"A picture is worth a thousand words."

I remember a similar thread sometime ago, but I didn't manage to get around to take the photos then, so here are some pics of my study.

Standing in the doorway of our second bathroom, you can see my table.

Turning to the right a bit, you can see my standing shelves and an antique cupboard. Overhead, is an L-shaped row of shelves, mostly to store comics.

To the right of that antique cupboard is my bureau.

Yeah, the Soundsticks are pretty cool -- note the subwoofer hiding under the desk. They sound great, but probably no better than a regular analog system. I guess I was momentarily blinded by technolust. When I play DVDs I just roll the whole system closer to the sofa so I can watch with my girlfriend. I call it the DougVision system. But with only a 17" screen, an audience of two is pretty much the maximum. Any more and people's heads will start knocking together.

Doug

P.S. Ink does not permanently stain aluminum, thank God!

All right you asked for it. This is my desk at home. Step back and snap the pic. I probably spend more time on FPN at work as I just sign on in the morning and check in a couple times an hour or so, but this one is at home and that is where my camera was.

Closer for those who dare to brave it.

great snaps, everyone! i think these pics tell a lot about the desk owners... ohmy.gif

in terms of lack of messiness, i cheated - the desk i showed is not really my working desk as it's in my bedroom loft, and a pain to get to. The computer desk located at 3:00 (not included in the photo) is real messy.

alright, howsabout some REAL messy desk shots? bring em on! we can take it...biggrin.gif

Well, I finally FOUND my desk. I've been looking for my perfect 29" height (most comfortable for me) and you can't believe how hard it is to find...unless you start looking at ladies secretaries. I thought this was decently priced and not frou frouey. Perfect for me! And a place to keep inks and all sorts of things, but is small and folds up smaller (always desirable by me since I live in a small space. I'm sure it won't be this tidy after a while.

Hey Tmann,
That's my Royal portable. It was my dad's from the late 60s i think.
I have a closeup of it in my typewriter thread in the chatter

Really? You can find these kinds of old secretaries easily here in 2nd hand shops and antique stores. I bet there were four or five in the little shop where I bought this. I am surprised. I sure do like mine. It is SSOOOOOOO perfect for keeping inks and pen things in.

It always starts off clean Wim but then it gets dumped on by a watercolour, a whole load of packaging, a cat, the child's homework and anything else folks want to dump for a while. I've tried yelling 'IT'S MY OFFICE - GET OUTA HERE' at the top of my lungs but nobody listens. sad.gif

Hi Piano Player,

I think I can, no, I know I do, as yours is only a few stacked items, so it can be surpassed quite easily actually. But I am not going to show my mess. Too ashamed to do so.

Let me say this: I have about 5 sq m of deskspace, and I have barely enough space to use my keyboard, with the computers, printers, monitor, KVM-switch, USB-hubs, scanner, battery-chargers, router, switches, cables, gear, books, cd-roms, books, journals, notepads, photo equipment, pens, papers, notepads, batteries, etc., etc., etc. all over the place, stacked on top of each other, and so on. It is a real mess.

On top of that, all official paperwork always ends up in my study, whether I carry it there or not, and I haven't had time yet to fix one wall where the book cases and cupboards go for paperwork and books, since the flooding we had last July.

Ah well. Once I have the wall fixed, and the book cases back up, I may just share a photograph biggrin.gif.

Warm regards, Wim

Jeen, with that awsome spaghetti cable under the desk, wins the Gold Prize for having the workbench as entangled as mine...
Denis Richard wins the Gold Prize just because such a 'messy' desk makes me want to sit there!!!! Go figure...!!!!! Very nice desk and very nice pic.

I'm afraid that if a publish a pic of my desk I'l be banned from Internet forever.

It is nice to see, though, that most of you have a pic of your beloved ones near the workplace. Lovely detail.
Cheers.

These are fun, I think there was a thread on PT a while back about this. My desk is maybe cleaner now:

There are actually two FP related items in this picture, one is a pen. And for you astute tech geeks out there, that's windows 2000 running on my extended monitor inside a virtual window on my new Mac. smile.gif

Brian, it looks as if you live in an old house, too, with your old window in the picture. I live in an 1897 Arts and Crafts style house. You can see part of a five panel door on the left.

Yep, although not quite as old as yours, mine was built in 1924. I'm still looking for pens in the attic. biggrin.gif
