Well I got the converter for my CL300 from Stan..... Thanks Stan
Prior to getting it I flushed out the nib unit and gave it a good cleaning with 10% Ammonia in the UC followed by 2 clear water UC cleanings...
The clear feed was once again clear.....
When I put the converter on the nib assy. I noticed that it did not fill, in fact the sac would not come back to filled position...
I took off the converter and while examining the nib assy the nib just slid off the feed with no effort...
I put it back in place, but it does not look like it is all the way on...
HOWEVER, now the converter fills..
But when writing, the pens seems to skip now and then....
I really don't know a danged thing about these suckers... so here are pics of the nib assy where the nib it attached...
If I can't get it figured out, I give it to Richard at Columbus and let him look at it..... worst case, I am off on a quest to get a new assy.

Tom,

Soak it overnight in a 10% solution of 409. If you have any bathtub tile cleaner, add in a spritz or two of that too. Let it sit for a couple of hours. Don't worry about hurting anything. You won't. That will loosen everything in there.

Good luck.

Stan I already gave it a solid ultrasonic cleaning with a 10% ammonia solution followed by 2 more with clear water.... the feed was perfectly clear when I was done...
What I am more concerned about is the nib coming off the feed with no effort and if it is back on the feed correctly... it looks like it is too far forward

If I am seeing the picture correctly, the nib appears to be in correctly. If it comes out too easily, you will need the tabs that clip the nib on the feed to be tightened. Don't think about the pen as a current Capless. The nib units are quite hard to find because they were not, to my knowledge, sold separately from the pen. As a result, we must think in terms of repair and not replacement. I'd say to take it to be repaired.

I've been struggling to get a few of my old Capless nib assemblies to allow proper ink flow. Long bouts of cleaning solution and ultrasonic baths don't seem to help. I removed the nib and could not find any ink crud causing blockage.

Ron Zorn recommends using good old fashioned Kohinoor rapidograph pen cleaner. That stuff is designed to cut into India ink, so a good long soaking for several weeks should have a good chance at removing the last bits of crud causing flow problems. I haven't bothered to buy any yet, but it's on my list of things to do. smile.gif

DUH!!!!!! headsmack.gif I have a quart bottle of it sitting here next to my restoration kit and didn't even think of it....
The stuff is fantastic.... I have found that slightly diluting it (75/25) lets it soak through some assemblies better...
Will have to try it and see what happens....
I think I will give the assy a good UC cleaning so it shows clean and then do the Kohlinoor soak to see if anything else comes out...
Do you think I should remove the nib when I do it since it comes off so easy now...

Cool -- good to hear you have it handy, Tom. Yeah, I'd remove the nib as it'll let the solution penetrate a little easier. I'm going to swing by a local art supply shop to get some myself. Hopefully we'll both be grinning from ear to ear with working old Capless nib assemblies in a few weeks from now. smile.gif

Well, I emptied the pen and gave it 2 cycles of UC cleaning.... the feed looked clear as a bell... and the water was clear at the end of the second cycle
I took the nib off and put the pieces in a screw top container I use for Rapidoeze cleaning in a 75/25 mix with cool water...
The solution is now a medium blue/black... looks like there was a bunch of stuff in the assy after all...
I will let it soak overnight and then repeat the UC bath for 2-3 cycles in cool clear water....
That Rapidoeze is the best thing I ever bought.... it has made my restoration work a whole lot easier....
