I do not know the answer to your question. I have a Mark Twain Conklin Crescent. That is the only modern Conklin I own and since it is perfect, I have never wanted to unscrew the nib. What happened? Did you break the nib?

No I didn't break the nib. It writes very nicely. Its just that I inked it with some PR Fast Dry Ultra Black, layed it down for couple of hours and when I picked it back up again, I noticed the cap had a dark band on the inside. The pen is a translusant peach like color so I noticed it right away. Pulled the barrel off to look at the converter and saw that some of the ink was gone I flushed the cap and soaked it overnight and got the ink out. I want to pull the nib out to see if there's a problem. I read somewhere here that another Conklin owner had the same problem and said a ring was broken or cracked.
