Full Version: Anyone for hand in motion videos?
The Fountain Pen Network > Creative Expressions > Penmanship

As a recovering musician I am still fascinated by watching the hands and fingers of the pianist as I listen to their work. Likewise, the actual physical practice of writing is so much about grip, angles, speed, etc., that it would be useful to me (and many others here, I would guess) to see some videos of a hand actually writing. I'm sure there are many different styles of writing and watching the hand in the act as well as the final result would be educational if not downright interesting.

Will anyone take me up on this?

Doug

Last year, I posted a link to a mpeg in this message http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...indpost&p=24726.
I am sorry but it is upside down.

Thank you Antonio. Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Anyone else?

12 MB WMV file (better use" save target as" or copy the link and open that in Windows Media Player, if you open it in Mozilla you'll see it fullscreen, doesn't exactly improve the quality).

featuring Desie and my hand and

1. blue pelikan M200 demo with OBB nib and PR American Blue
2. yellow Waterman Charleston with B nib and Waterman South Seas blue
3. Black Sheaffer , M nib, Noodlers Black
4.Visconti Crystal Demi, B nib, PR AmericanBlue cart
5. Empty GF Wahl M flex... ->
6. GF Wahl F flex with Noodlers Black ( that always smears when I use that pen..so, scan is a bit messy )
7same blue demo pelikan.

As you can see, my normal writing speed is pretty fast and I need to slow down considerably when using a flex nib ( also I need to put the paper at a bigger angle wink.gif ).

Song is Amsterdam, SUnday night by JW Roy and Ilse de Lange ( I really like his voice , hers is good too).

Result ( plese ignore all spelling errors biggrin.gif )

Mahalo, corien! And my regards also to your most serene and attentive co-star. Do you find blue paw prints in your journal from time to time? Or even entries that you don't remember writing...?

Good work corienb and antoniosz. It would be great if more members could add their own videos (I can't - don't have the tools sad.gif )

Videos from people like James Pickering and Garythepenman would be quite educational. (hint hint biggrin.gif )

I came across this page of videos from iampeth.com and post it here for the curious. These are more of calligraphy than the cursive style I'm looking for, but still, interesting...

Doug, these are awesome!... Thank you for finding and posting the link here.
They are real pros. It is such a pleasure to watch.
The secret is precision in the execution of the form, slow speed and consistancy.
Notice the very low angle of the nib.

Also the left handers would enjoy the performance of John DeCollibus on Offhand Flourishing!

Thanks again Doug.

Corien! I really enjoyed that. My goodness, your most beauteous co-star was so good. Mine would be laying on the notebook most likely biggrin.gif

Thanks chupie !
Mine prefers the computer keyboard ( hence the wooden thing to shove that under..which doesn't always help because the cat wriggels itself on top anywaymaking the computer beep very annoyingly !) But yeah, that's Desie, happy to lay down next to me and occasinally interrupt. (Hey, that thing is moving, attaaaack -> pen/ my hand/hair/foot...)
