Stephens' fountain pen ink was very popular in the 1930s -- at least in northern England where I lived -- second only to Swan ink. I used Stephens' black ink quite a lot. I remember seeing a few Stephens' fountain pens in use. The most popular makes of fountain pens sold in England at that time were Mabie Todd (Swan & Blackbird -- by far the most popular), Waterman and Parker.

I don't remember any new fountain pens for sale in England from the start of WW2 in 1939 until after the end of the war -- somewhere around 1947 (The Mabie Todd factory was destroyed in the London air raid Blitz of 1940). However, I came across this Ad from a 1942 newspaper that my mother saved ..........

.......... that shows that at least the Stephens' Company was producing and selling fountain pens (and ink) during the war.

Sorry for the weak scan -- it is a small Ad in an old newspaper.

Thankyou! That was very helpful.
